A Preview of the 2012 Schedule for the New York Yankees

The 2012 Major League Baseball schedule is avaiable for review. Let’s examine the schedule for the New York Yankees on a monthly basis; the season runs from April to September with three concluding games in October and entails 162 games with 81 games in Yankee Stadium and 81 games on the road. Following Spring Training and exhibition games which conclude on April 1st and 2nd in Miami against the Marlins in their new ballpark, the Yankees open the 2012 Major League Season on the road.

APRIL

The Yankees open the 2012 on season with a three game weekend series in Tampa beginning Friday, April 6th. The opener is the first of 23 games during the month. The team then travels to Baltimore to play the Orioles for three games on April 9 to 11th. Thursday the 12th is an off day; the Yankees arrive home in the Bronx for the opener on Friday, April 13th against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Two more games follow and the Minnesota Twins arrive in New York for a four game series April 16th to 19th. The Yankees then hit the road for the first visit of the season to Fenway Park in Boston. After three games with the Red Sox the Yankees travel to Texas to face the defending American League champion Rangers for three games April 23rd to 25th. Thursday April 26th is an off day with the Yankees arriving home on the 27th to face the Detroit Tigers for three games. A home game with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday April 30th completes the month.

MAY

The month of May features 28 games that begin with two concluding games against the Orioles on May 1st and 2nd. The Yankees then leave town for a one stop road trip to Kansas City May 3 to 6. Following the first of three off days on Monday May 7th the Yankees return home for a six game homestand with three games with the Tampa Bay Rays and three with the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees then embark on a short two city road trip with two games in Baltimore and two in Toronto. The Yankees return home on Friday May 18th for their first interleague games of the 2012 season; three games with the Cincinnati Reds. The Yankees remain at home for three games with the Kansas City Royals and use the off day of May 24th to leave on a two city west coast trip to Oakland and Anaheim for three games in each city. Following the game against the Angels on May 30th the Yankees take an off day to end the month.

JUNE

Friday June 1st finds the Yankees in Detroit for three games marking the beginning of a 27 game month. Following an off date on June 4th the Yankees are back home for six games; three with the Rays and then the annual games with crosstown rivals New York Mets June 8th to 10th. Interleague play continues with three games in Atlanta, a day off, and then three games against the Nationals in the nation’s capital. The Yankees return home for three games with the Atlanta Braves June 18th to 20th and then complete the games with the Mets on the road June 21st to 23rd. Six home games, three against the Cleveland Indians and three against the Chicago White Sox wrap up June.

JULY

Sunday July 1st wraps up the homestand against the White Sox. New York then hits the road for three games in Tampa and three games in Boston. July 9th to July 12th is the four game All Star break. The Yankees start back with six home games; three with the Angels and three with the Blue Jays. Then it is on to the west coast for four in Oakland and three in Seattle. The Yankees return home on Friday July 27th for three games with Boston and wrap up the month at home with two games against Baltimore.

AUGUST

The 28 games of August begin with the final game of the Baltimore series on the 1st and follow at home for three games with the Seattle Mariners August 3 to 5. The Yankees then leave for a seven road trip; four in Detroit and three in Toronto. New York returns home for four games with the Rangers and three games with Red Sox concluding the homestand on Sunday August 19th. It is back on the road for three games each in Chicago and Cleveland. The home fans next see the Yankees on Monday August 27th for three games against Toronto. Following an off day the Yankees conclude August at home on the 31st against Baltimore.

SEPTEMBER

September starts at home with the two concluding games of the series with Baltimore. The Yankees then leave New York for a ten game road trip to Tampa, Baltimore and Boston. The next homestand starts Friday September 14th against Tampa and includes three games each with the Rays, the Blue Jays and Oakland Athletics. Then it is off to Minnesota for three games beginning Monday September 24th and then the month ends in Toronto with four games versus the Blue Jays.

OCTOBER

The Yankees return home on Monday October 1st for the final three games of the 2012 season with the Boston Red Sox visiting Yankee Stadium. The concludes a season that lasts 181 days including the all star break and off days.
