Angelina Jolie Covers Marie Claire for January 2012

She’s at the top of the food chain when it comes to selling magazines, and Angelina Jolie graces the front page of the January 2012 issue of Marie Claire.

Coinciding with the December 23rd release of her directorial debut “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” the 36-year-old actress looked elegant in an Alexei Hay shot spread adorning the publication’s pages while talking about her upcoming movie, wanting to move away from acting and her too-cute twins, Knox and Vivienne.

Highlights from Angelina’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to visit Marie Claire.

On the atrocities of 20th century warfare:
“I think it’s still hard to understand what happened and how it could happen 40 minutes away from Italy in the ’90s at the time Schindler’s List came out.”

On writing ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’:
“It began as a private exercise, an excuse to get out some of my frustrations [with] the international community and justice issues.

On filming ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’:
“Some of the very darkest sections of the film were conceived in Shiloh’s art class; I was in the back waiting for the kids to finish.”

On working with her film’s actresses:
“It was nice for me to play with other girls; I don’t really have girlfriends in movies, if you’ve noticed… Well, I have a few girlfriends, I just… I stay at home a lot. I’m just not very social. I don’t do a lot with them, and I’m very homebound.”

On moving away from acting:
“…I woke up one day realizing, God, I’m an actor. I don’t think I intended to be an actor. I think my mother wanted it for me. I loved telling stories, and I enjoyed the profession, but is it too late to be something else?”

On having more kids:
“Nothing planned at the moment, but we just don’t know. I could end up pregnant.”

On Knox and Vivienne:
“Knox is very much a dude. Very physical, tough. He loves dinosaurs and swords. She [Vivienne] is so elegant and delicate. Vivi will pick flowers from the garden and put them in her hair. She likes to get her nails done and collects stuffed animals. It’s very funny for me to have to buy all things pink and watch princess movies!”

Treating their brood to a special shopping spree, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were spotted at FAO Schwarz in New York City today (December 7).

The “Salt” actress and her “Moneyball” man escorted their six children – Zahara, Maddox, Shiloh, Pax, Knox and Vivienne – inside the famous toy store to load up on a batch of purchases.

Aside from spending time with her family, Miss Jolie has dismissed rumors that she borrowed material from a 2007 book by a Croatian journalist about the Balkan conflict in the early 1990s to use in her directorial debut “In the Land of Blood and Honey.”

After denying ever having read Braddock’s book, the humanitarian/actress explained to the LA Times, “It’s par for the course. It happens on almost every film,” adding, “There are many books and documentaries that I did pull from. It’s a combination of many people’s stories. But that particular book I’ve never seen.”
