Christmas Parades Ringing in the Holidays in Newberry County

Sooner than you think, Christmas will be here. I’m not going to even mention how many days is left because it will strike panic in my heart and maybe yours too! A favorite Christmas tradition of mine is Christmas parades. Here is a look at the schedule for Christmas parades and other related events in Newberry County of South Carolina.

The Whitmire Jaycees will be sponsoring the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 2, 2011 at 6:30 PM. The Whitmire Community School Chorus will be singing several songs, the high school band will be performing, and refreshments will be served afterwards.

On Saturday, December 3, 2011 the Newberry Christmas Parade will be held at 2 PM. This annual event is sponsored by the Newberry Jaycees. The deadline has passed to enter the parade but for a $5 late fee, you can still apply. You must be lined up by 1 PM and all floats must have a holiday theme.

The town of Prosperity will be holding it’s annual Christmas tree lighting and shopper’s walk on Saturday, December 3. The tree lighting will kick off the festivities at 5:30 PM. Come experience Prosperity’s charm by visiting it’s downtown merchants. Come back to Prosperity on Sunday, December 4 to watch the Christmas Parade. The parade will begin at 3:00 PM.

The Whitmire Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 on Main Street at 1 PM. The line up will begin at noon at Railroad Ave/North Main Street near the car wash. There is no entry fee for this parade. To be put in the line up, call Sue Hollingsworth at 694-3797 or Amy Silvers at 944-1959.

On December 14, 2011 the Whitmire Community School Chorus along with the Royal Regiment Band will hold their Winter Concert starting at 7:00 PM. The chorus is under the direction of Chris Wofford and April Sessions and the band is under the direction of Robert Gunning. The concert will be held in the Whitmire Community School high school gym.
