Clean Green Part Two by Anne Tomsik

For hundreds of years women have been cleaning their homes with natural essentials that have little to no impact on the environment. In this series, I would like to address many different options to available cleaning products that are green based.

Olive oil puts the shine on furniture as you read in part one. But if you want an all-purpose action cleanser, nothing beats White Vinegar. Talk about your mean green product. White Vinegar can cut through grease, and clean with a shine. It is environmentally safe and can be used anywhere.

Recently I came across the worst tile floor ever seen in a busy establishment. The owner had used every glossy cleaning product he could find on the market to try to restore the brand new look. But nothing was changing the dirty appeal. When approached with the problem, I suggested cleaning the tile with straight White Vinegar. I told him to try it first and see what happened. If that didn’t work we could add Baking Soda or Lemon Juice. But to his amazement, the White Vinegar worked. He sprayed it on in a spray bottle, let it set for a few minutes, and then mopped over it with hot water. The beautiful shine was restored. No damage was done to the tile.

I have found that White Vinegar works in a lot of ways you wouldn’t expect. Have you ever washed your dishes in your dishwasher, and ended up with soap residue stuck to the dishes? No matter what you do, it never comes off again. Rather than throw the dish away, spray it with White Vinegar. Then add White Vinegar to your machine instead of the liquid drying aid you use. Your dishes will come out beautiful and clean. No dingy look. I’ve noticed this on glass, plastic, crystal, and the silverware. Continue to put White Vinegar in at least a semi daily to weekly cycle. You’ll notice such a big change.

Another great tip is to clean your glass with White Vinegar and water. From tables, to lamps. From Windows, to glasses. Even your faucet fixtures. Your will see the remarkable shine, and the difference. White Vinegar has been cleaning coffee pots for decades, and shining brass. Recently it has been proven Eco-friendly in killing weeds. And I have found when you have babies in diapers; it is wonderful to take out urine smells in the laundry and disinfect the crib mattress.

Best of all you will see a difference in your budget. Compare a gallon of White Vinegar to a 22 ounce bottle of your favorite cleaner. Keep in mind you can dilute the White Vinegar with water. Either way the White Vinegar is easier on your pocket. And keep in mind that it disinfects too. White Vinegar holds the same disinfectant strength as rubbing alcohol. But yet it is all natural, and completely safe.
