Let Me Think About It

An early autumn shower caused a solo leaf to fall
And briefly rest on a rain soaked wooden deck.

Rain waters added new slick wet textures
To previously dull brown dry wood.

This Chinese Tallow leaf had easily fallen from her tree;
As her colors began turning to autumn’s yellows.

When rain waters dry; the lone leaf will blow away
Wherever new breezes take her
On the leaf’s final solo journey
Away from her securely anchored tree.

The leaf is not afraid.
This lone leaf is happy.
Someone has admired her yellowing autumn beauty.
Tomorrow she may be trampled on,
Or just slowly fade from yellow to brown
Returning into the earth
To nurture her former majestic tree home.

The leaf just asks, “Do you have a moment
To think about it?”
