Love in the Light of Day

How fleeting is love and affection?

How precious is the rose?

Love and syrupy transcendent words

So quickly disappear in the light of day

Promises of forever and always

Of true love’s sweet kiss and candlelight

Turn to dust, to anger and despair

To fighting and arguments over petty things.

What was love eternal becomes animosity and never ending strife.

We do not know how to love when life’s reality intervenes

And “’til death do us part” becomes

“I will see you in court.”

Where is the rose, the fairytale in all of this?
