Movie Review of Insidious

Synopsis: A couple moves into a new house with their three children. When their son mysteriously slips into a coma, they find themselves haunted by spirits. Only, it isn’t the house that’s haunted; it’s their son.

Who’s in it? Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins and Barbara Hershey

What I liked about this movie: Prior to watching this movie, I had several people tell me it was the scariest film they have ever seen. I don’t share that opinion. But, it was still very creepy. I especially liked how the ghosts/demons would suddenly appear out of nowhere (such as when they were having a conversation at the kitchen table). In other words, it’s not a film you’ll doze off watching.

The idea of the son himself being haunted was actually somewhat clever; especially when they explain his coma and some of the history with the dad. It was enough to score the film some points for originality.

What I didn’t like about this movie: I’m not exactly sure why this is, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the part toward the end with the dad searching for his son’s soul. I think it might be because that part reminded me a lot of another movie I once saw (though I can’t think of which movie that was).

Final Opinion: As I said before, it isn’t the scariest film I’ve ever watched but it’s still pretty decent and worth taking the time to rent.

My Grade: 5 stars out of a possible 5.
