How do you tie a BJJ belt that is too long?

Q: I was handed down a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gi whose belt is too long for me — I would probably fit fine in an A2 belt, but this one is probably an A4 because after I tie it traditionally, the ends still hang to my knees. I tried double-wrapping around my waist but it’s not long enough for that. Is there any way I can tie this thing so that it’s not as long as it is when I do the traditional knot??As my question states, I’d rather find a different way to TIE the belt, not modify or replace it. Replacing is not an option bc I’ve already been striped and I don’t know how my instructor would feel about having to re-stripe me. A: i have 3 solutions for you. 1)cut the belt you have now and sow the newly cut length appropriate end to make it look like you didn’t cut it. 2) buy a new belt. they aren’t special for dojo’s you can get them any martial art store or internet. 3)if u start your tying process going back to front then start at your belly so you get a half waist extra and vice versa.

Q: I have a kimono with a 10 cm wide obi and I want to know how to tie it best. Can anyone help me?I have a feminine kimono that has no slit in the back of the sleeve and has a 10cm obi. A: From the measurement I’m assuming it’s a men’s obi. Women’s obis aren’t usually any narrower than 14 or 15 cm wide. So if it’s a men’s obi and you’re a woman then purists would say you shouldn’t be wearing it at all, full stop. You definitely shouldn’t be wearing it with a very feminine ensemble. If you’re a guy or you’re going for a more masculine look with a casual kimono (e.g. a komon in darker, more masculine colors, or being very daring and wearing a men’s kimono), your best bet is probably going to be the kai no kuchi musubi, which seems to be a fairly standard tie for men’s obi and for women trying to get a more masculine look with their hanhaba and yukata obi. There are a few other options as well.
