Top Five Things to Do Before the End of Summer

You don’t have to look very far to notice a back-to-school promotion or advertisement. While for many of us, school days are (thankfully) well behind us, they still serve as a good reminder of what we used to be weeks away from at the end of summer. As quiet as the summer months can seem, it’s as if the entire business world got the memo to step up the pace right after Labor Day.

If you have some down time in the next few weeks – be sure to use it wisely! Here’s our checklist of five things you can do to kick off the fall on the right foot.

Profile: Take a glance at your online profiles. No, this advice is not just for job-seekers. Think about it — what’s the first thing that a prospective client or colleague will probably do when meeting you? Check you out on line. Make sure your profile is in tiptop shape. Wear: Clean out your closet! You look good, you feel good. Enough said. If you still have some outfits or ties from the 90s or (hopefully not — the 80s!), it might be time to donate them to the local charity. Get organized and feel better about your wardrobe for the fall and winter. Read: Download Laura Vanderkam’s book 168 Hours. The quick summary: we have more time in the week when we think. If you start with 168 hours and subtract out the time you need to work, to sleep, to exercise – you STILL should have a ton of time left. So where is it all going? This book teaches you how to better track and manage your time so you can decide where to put those extra hours. Great info for anyone saying, I’d love to (fill-in-the-blank) if only I had the time. Hire: No, interns are not just for summer. There are still tons of people looking for work once the school year starts — including those who want virtual positions. If you think you might want some extra help this fall, start your search now! This way, you and your intern can hit the ground running come September.

The fall is right around the corner and now is the time to take a step back and look to see how you can re-group, re-organize and prepare for the months ahead. It will be good for you and your career.
