Winter Survival: Bonding is Key

Being a parent to a very busy toddler, there are times where it seems it is impossible to find that activity that will wear him out. Have no fear, these tips will help in keeping the little ones (and big ones) busy and have Mom and Dad having fun too. Even in colder temperatures there are plenty of fun activities that will make parenting much easier and help survive those kid loved and parent hated snow days.
Bonding is always important. With busy jobs and the hectic preparation of the holidays, it is easy to not take as much time to simply bond. Some really simple and fun ideas are:

Hot chocolate, accessorized- This is fun because the preparation can be a time to bond along with having a delicious treat. While having this warming drink, why not add whipped cream and top with cocoa, or even cinnamon. For the candy lovers, there is always the addition of chocolate shavings or even a nice stir with a candy cane.

Family game night- Have a favorite board game, or maybe a video game. Family game nights are a great way to brave the elements. Once again providing a chance to bond. Watch those bored faces turn into smiles. For younger children, games like don’t break the ice and Elepfun can be great choices. For those who are more tech savvy, the new gaming systems have added the motion aspect providing not only a chance to interact but a chance to exercise as well.

Make dinner together- Get the kids involved. Make their favorite meal. Something as simple as helping put pasta in a pan to make mac and cheese can be exciting for a child. Let them be a part of what you are doing. Then they will feel proud that they contributed to the finished product.

Go outside- Even parents need a break. Building a snowman, sledding or even a trip to go ice skating can be a way to enjoy the elements for parents and children. This is another great way for everybody to get some exercise, a good benefit for all.

There are plenty of ways to survive the winter months. The best thing to do is make sure not to forget to take time out from busy schedules that live brings or from the blues of winter to enjoy your children. Just doing that can brighten anyone’s day and the rest comes easy.
