Can anyone tell me about a vascular malformation in the pons area of my brain means? ?
Q: I was diagnosed yesterday 10/4 with a nonruptrued small vascular malformation in the left pons area of my brain. The Dr. acted as if it was not a big deal, and there was nothing he could do about it. I am abit concerned. After searching on the internet for answers it looks to me like it is just a ticking time bomb of a premature anneurism. Does anyone know about this first hand? The pons area is to the left of my brain stem.
A: The pons area of your brain is actually on the front of your brain stem – it is a rounded structure. A vascular malformation means there is a blood vessel that is not formed properly. If the doctor acted like it was no big deal, that may be because they are common. It does look like it may make someone more inclined to have anneurisms, but only slightly.I would say that he probably thinks that the risks associated with some sort of brain surgery to fix it FAR outweigh the benefits of possibly fixing a problem that may or may not be there. I know that doesn’t make you feel better. I have cancer and they keep telling me about risks and benefits and all I can think is “this is my life, not some spread sheet.”Rest assured that if a surgeon thinks there is reason to do surgery, he will – that’s how he makes his dough. If he isn’t sure surgery is the answer, all he gets is the office visit charge. If you are still worried – seek a second opinion – perhaps from a neurologist. I always get a second opinion if I’m not sure of something.

my husband has a vascular malformation in his leg?
Q: the lower part what are some things to do i have had so many opinions and none of them are the same 1 of them were we have to take the leg off 2 leave it alone 3 we will take it out and use meat from your back to fill in the hole and so on and so on what should we do i need to know something and we have seen doctors lots of them
A: Talk to a physician. No one on Yahoo Answers can see, touch or examine this vascular malformation, so we can’t offer any practical advice. You husband should go to a doctor and listen to what s/he says. You say that you have seen doctors… what advice did they give? You will not find better advice for something as serious as this on Yahoo Answers.
