A: It is Darvon, (but with acetaminophen = Darvocet brand), a narcotic like Vicoden. The acetaminophen may help with the pain a bit, but is not worth the damage to the liver it causes , esp. if you combine with alcohol. Basically Darvocet and Darvon have the same pain relief potential – not much: Darvocet (& Darvon) is much less potent than codeine (that is, the otc 8mg tylonol with acetaminophen & caffeine, & both are really no better than 2 aspirin. Both Darvon and your Darvocet have propoxyphene, and Vicodin has hydrocodone. Both are in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics as is tylenol, but you are being prescribed so little. Narcotic = propoxyphene & codeine; analgesic = acetaminophenVicoden has stronger/quicker pain relief than your ‘script. Guess is that your Dr. may be giving you a change because you might have got a tolerance to Vicoden (that is, to the the hydrocodone).Do please argue for aggressive pain management. The doctor is in service to you. There’s so much bad press out there about narcotics that many doctors will let you suffer until you really stand up for yourself and/or find a compassionate/caring doctor. A: This question is confusing because they are both used to alleviate pain but in different way’s hydrocodone is a narcotic and gives you the feeling of walking on clouds and takes your pain away, now tramadol is a nerve blocker which stops the nerves from recognizing and sending signals to your brain saying your in pain, also it is not listed as a narcotic, which means you can drive while using it, the only kicker to using tramadol is it takes about a week to get into your system to get the full affect !

Each pill is 100mg Propoxyphene-N and 650mg APAP I’m assuming since it says “Propoxyphene-N 100 W/ APAP 650 Tabs. I have heard of people taking like 3 or 4 and getting a nice buz. There’s only 6 left in the bottle so im not to worried about getting hooked just dieing. Anyways what is the od lever for APAP and Propoxyphene and what will this do if i take like 2 or is that how many i should take? A: What you have is propoxyphene napsylate and acetaminophen. It was, at one point, the most widely prescribed painkiller in the US. It was also implicated in something like 25% of overdose deaths.It is not used as much anymore because it depresses breathing to a great degree when abused. It has a long plasma half-life (because it is like its uncle, methadone) and can cause toxicity issues. The toxic level of acetaminophen in one day in an average adult is 3-4 grams (3000-4000 mgs.) Also, this medicine is probably expired, and thus not safe to take. Are you sure those are the original pills that were prescribed, or did your mom replace them with estrogen pills or sleeping pills? You never know. Any buzz they give you will likely make you sick, so I’d just throw them away and wait for the herb to arrive…
