Has anyone heard ANY info on the drug TALWIN and or a replacement for it ?
Q: I have not heard anything about the drug being available again what is a good substitute?
A: Pentazocine is a synthetically-prepared prototypical mixed agonist-antagonist narcotic (opioid analgesic) drug used to treat mild to moderately severe pain. Pentazocine is sold under several brand names, such as Fortal, Talwin NX (with naloxone), Talwin and Talwin PX (without naloxone) and Talacen (with acetaminophen). It should be noted that this compound may exist as one of two enantiomers, named (+)-pentazocine and (-)-pentazocine. (-)-pentazocine is a kappa-opioid receptor agonist, while (+)-pentazocine is not, instead displaying a ten-fold greater affinity for the sigma receptor. Talwin PX is the main pentazocine pharmaceutical in Canada, where laws and regulations prohibit the addition of naloxone to the formulation for non-therapeutic purposes.Without knowing your ailment, I cannot suggest an alternative means to address your problem.
Has anyone been taking the drug Talwin? I have been prescribed to it for 5 years and now it has been recalled
Q: I just called my pharmacy to see if my presciption for Talwin had been refilled yet and was told it was recalled. I have been taking it for 5 years for pain management and it has worked great for me. I follow the dosage as directed and have never abused the drug. I called my doctor and he didn’t even know it had been recalled yet. Does anyone else take this medication and with this recall, what are we supposed to do? I don’t know if I will have any side effects or withdrawal and I am scared I may. This drug has really helped me. I just don’t understand how they can totally stop selling this medicine when so many people are depending on the prescription and have not even been warned nor had a clue that this drug was going to be pulled off the shelves. I haven’t even had a chance to wean off the drug, if thats what it will take, I’m forced to cold turkey my medication. Don’t the forces that be even think of what this will do to the people that use this medicine? What do you do?
A: I’ve taken it before but it’s been several years. Your fears are normal. Anybody that has been on a med like talwin for 5 years will need the help of a doctor to safely get off it.You need to tell your doctor much of the same thing you wrote hear.
