A: I got one because my wife and I decided that after three great children we were done. My wife had been on the pill for years but for some reason began to have circuatory problems with it so the doctor advised her to stop taking it. I had heard nothing bad about vasectomies (ok one story years ago) so figured it was no big deal. Plus condoms were a pain. I will not explain the procedure but rather its potential side effects that almost no Urologist will tell you. My procedure was not so bad except one point when the anaesthetic wore off and it felt like he was ripping my stomach out through my scrotum. I healed pretty uneventfully and all and all was initially happy with the result. About 8 days after I decide to try it out and was shocked to discover that I had lost almost all ejaculatory sensation (a condition that persists today 11 months later) About 3 months later I developed pain that became severe/debilitating enough to require more surgery which was only partially successful. My insurance company told me that they are willing to pay for removal of my epididymis and if necessary my testicle(s) but will not pay for a “reversal of voluntary sterilization” so now I have to do battle with them in order to convince them it is not to have more children but to hopefully stop a potential lifetime of pain (I do not know if I can ever regain my good sensations).
