Tidbury Creek Park Brings a Dog Park to Dover Delaware

Tidbury Creek County Park, located at 2233 South State Street has always attracted fisherman for it’s stocked pond in the spring and summer, however with few other options for activities it also attracted other less savory characters due to its relative seclusion.

A few years ago the County installed new play equipment, picnic tables and grills as well as making approximately one acre into a fenced dog park. The dog park itself consists of two half acre pens, one for small dogs and one for larger dogs. I visited the park a few times with my dog in the past few months. During the workday there are seldom many dogs, if any at all. This would be an excellent time to bring a dog who needed the space to run off leash but whose owner was unsure of how well the dog would interact with several other dogs.

My dog, who lives in the country and has the opportunity to run off leash daily on our own land, was not impressed with the opportunity to run in a fenced pen by herself. She much prefers the evening and weekend hours when many people are out with their dogs. The interaction and playtime is the highlight of her day since she is an only dog at home.

The park has water hoses for the dogs to get drinking water and clean up bags for owners to clean up after their pets. It appears as if most owners do a good job cleaning up and keeping the park clean. In addition to the small playground, dog park, and fishing pond, there is also an approximately half mile walking trail around the pond which dogs may walk on as long as they are on a leash. The improvements to this park, make it a much more enjoyable part of our community then it was in past years.
