What’s the best way to get rid of canker sores?
Q: I’ve gotten these all throughout my youth, and they are so painful. Especially when I get them on the sides of my tongue where they scrape against my teeth and cause days of pain. I’ve tried various things like Kanka, etc. But it still takes about 3-5 days or more to get rid of some. Also, for whatever reason…it seems like using the Kanka helps spread the germs to another area, causing another one. Sometimes I’ve even gotten them in annoying areas, like on the back of my throat. It apparently comes from eating various fruits and drinking things that have citrus fruits in them, and something to do with the acid. This really irritates me…my job requires me to talk the whole day, and it’s extremely difficult to properly speak when the nerves in your tongue are reacting strangely to the pain of a sore being there. I know that millions of people deal with these, some more severely than others. What is the best way to deal with them, apart from the “go to the doctor” cop-out answer?
A: Use salt water. Make it strong (plenty of salt and a little water)so that your mouth quivers when the salt comes in contact with the sore. Hold it against the sore if you can for at least 30 seconds before spitting it out. It will heal faster. It actually hurts more than the sore this way, but you will thank me later. You are not the only one I have given this advice to, and she thanked me too.
