Tips for a Safe and Fun New Year’s Eve 2012

The year 2011 is at an end, and it hardly seems like a whole year has passed since last December! But the New Year of 2012 is just around the corner, and millions of people around the world will be celebrating this New Year’s Eve with friends, family, and plenty of fun. Make sure your New Year’s Eve 2012 is spectacular and safe with these simple New Year’s Eve celebration tips.

Tip #1: Keep drinking safety in mind, no matter where you are

Everyone loves a drink-or three or four-on New Year’s Eve. But remember that mixing drinking and danger is a recipe for disaster for you and those around you. Never drink and drive, even if you have to wake up a friend with a phone call to ask for a ride home, or shell out $60 for a cab ride. Always keep an eye on any open drinks in a public setting, because open drinks are easier to spike or tamper with, especially in a large or crowded bar.

Tip #2: Keep party treats delicious and easy for kids and adults

If you’re throwing a New Year’s Eve party, prepare yummy treats that are easy to eat for everyone. Messy foods like barbecue ribs or complicated dishes are best left to holiday dinner parties. Finger foods, like chicken strips and slices of pizza, are your best bet for New Year’s Eve. If you are throwing a party where kids will be attending with their parents, you can occupy their time with “create-your-own” treat bars. My mother used to set out bars of graham crackers and a tub of frosting and have each kid make their own graham cracker house while the adults upstairs had their own fun.

Tip #3: Keep your resolutions reasonable

New Year’s resolutions are a popular topic at any New Year’s Eve celebration. Many people find themselves setting unrealistic resolutions that might last until February… if that long! Make sure to keep any of your resolutions reasonable and manageable for your lifestyle. Want to lose weight in 2012? Instead of making a resolution to drop 60 lbs, which may lead you to give up if you aren’t losing the weight fast enough, make a resolution to cut down on calorie-heavy drinks like smoothies and soda pop.

Whether you’re celebrating at home, at a bar, with friends or with the little ones, make sure your welcome the New Year with an open heart and plenty of smiles!
