Is taking prenatal vitamins better than taking regular vitamins?
Q: I havent taken vitamins in years and now i am sort of trying to catch up. I dont want to have a baby anytime soon nor am I expecting. Are they too concentrated for regular use or its ok for me to take them. ?
A: You can still take prenatal vitamins even if your not pregnant. They give extra vitamins needed to sustain your bodies function for fertility reasons. Most women take them when they are trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding in addition to pregnancy, but they are safe to take in any situation. But I think if you just took regular vitamins that would be sufficient.
Is it okay to take Prenatal Vitamins as opposed to regular vitamins?
Q: Is it okay if I take prenatal vitamins as opposed to regular vitamins? I’m not trying to get pregnant or anything. My mom said I should take prenatal vitamins because they work much better than regular vitamins I take. Is this true?
A: Absolutely. They are usually better and contain more of what a woman of childbearing age should take (folic acid, iron, etc.) than regular multi-vitamins.
Are prenatal vitamins better for you than regular multivitamins even if you’re NOT pregnant? ?
Q: I have been taking prenatal vitamins even though I’m not pregnant so I’m wondering if I’m doing the right thing or if I should just stick to the regular stuff.
A: They’re good for you! If you compare them side by side to a generic multivitamin they’re almost identical. They do have more folic acid and other things that help with pregnancy but none of that hurts you. Possibly the only downside is that they don’t double-up on iron like some other multivitamins geared towards women do. But if you’re not anemic, the prenatal vitamin will meet all your needs. I take them because they’re easier to swallow!
