Q: I know that question is stupid.Trust me!And I have read some things and I know none of you on here are doctors. But,I’m sure one of you WOMEN on here can help.I have been taking birth control for almost a year.I haven’t missed a pill yet. But,I have been really curious about this one thing for awhile.I know there is that chance I can still get pregnant. Now,this is what I was wondering.Let’s say I’m pregnant, and I don’t know it.Yet.What happens to the fetus if I’m still taking the pills for awhile before I find out?Is there any harm? Also, another stupid question.I hope I can word this right.OK.I get my period at the end of the month.Every month like clock work.Ok,My question is.(I hope I don’t confuse anyone)My question is,Which period will I miss if I have sex before my period and get pregnant?I know that sounds stupid.I have sex a week before my period, will I miss the up coming period if I’m pregnant or will I miss the next one?I’m only 19.I have been having sex for two years. Please cut me some slack.
A: The hormones in birth control pills are not harmful to your baby. However, no medication should be taken during pregnancy that has no benefit to you or your baby. So, you should stop taking your birth control pills while you’re pregnant. And you would miss your up coming period and the following. But not everyone is like this. You may still have your period while your pregnant for a few months.
What are the chances or probability of getting pregnant while on birth control but taking an antibiotic?
Q: I am on and have been taking Tri-Sprintec for birth control. But I also take an antibiotic (Doxycycline) for acne.I heard that being on an antibiotic increases your chance of getting pregnant even if you’re on the pill. Can anyone vouch for this statement? Does anyone know the probability of getting pregnant while on both of these?
A: Taking antibiotics does reduce or wipe out the effectiveness of birth control. That is why most doctors tell their patients to use condoms if on antibiotics. Also, if you do happen to become pregnant, any tetracyclines can cause serious birth defects so you need to stop them immediately.
What can happen if you are taking birth control while pregnant (or possibly pregnant)?
Q: My last period was in January. I had a pap done in February but was told I was not pregnant. I still hadn’t had a period for that month but still started the birth control. Now I have been taking them for a month and still no period. There’s a slight chance that I could have became pregnant ( from the time I had the pap done to when I started the pills). I asked My Dr. what I should do, she said it was normal to not have a period for up to 5 months when you start birth control. And to continue the pills. What are the risks if I am pregnant and still continue to take the birth control???
A: The effect on the unborn child is still unknown. However, MOST women are under the idea that we HAVE TO HAVE a period every month and that isn’t true. You can skip a period every now and again and it’s OK. Now that you started the birth control you may not have a period for a month or 2 due to your body getting adjusted. Or you could have break threw bleeding (normal). You also need to keep in mind that many woman while on birth control do not have periods due to the hormones that they are given (normal once again). If you still feel like there is a chance that you are pregnant, call your doctor and request a blood test. I hope this helps.
