A: My doc tells me that they are more effective than condoms alone (a good feature since I am taking meds that would be a problem for a fetus). However, if you absolutely can’t get pregnant, you need to use two forms of birth control and spermicidal and condoms is still ONE form. If the condom breaks, there is less chance that sperm will escape alive, but no guarantee. Both of you should have your own forms of birth control!

You just need to learn how to fit it properly. If you guys can’t make the barrier ones work, and don’t want to use hormones, then you could investigate IUDs, but if you don’t like that either then you’ll have to be very careful otherwise you could well end up with a kid.
