Q: sorry im asking on a diferent question thing, i cant add details to my other question my pc is acting up right now….but anyways…so canned tuna is ok to eat while pregnant?someone said it DOESNT have the high concentrations of mercury and stuff?i really hope thats true because the cravings i get…IS TUNA 🙂 Thanks!
A: white canned tuna is much higher in Mercury then Light canned tuna. so if you feel you must have tuna opt for light instead of the White which is comparable to fresh Tuna steaks in mercury content. but i would recommend staying away from tuna while you are pregnant, nursing, or thinking of getting pregnant! better to err on the side of caution when it comes to our children. even small amounts of mercury can cause problems in developing brains.p.s. you might want to try canned wild salmon, fresh tilapia, sole, flounder, cod, or haddock all of which are much lower in mercury and once cooked can be mixed up like tunafish!
Is it ok to eat tuna while you are pregnant?
Q: I know high amounts of mercury are present in tuna, and it should be eaten in very small amounts IF AT ALL while you are pregnant. I have read it is dangerous for the fetus. I want you people’s opinions. I have eaten it twice since I’ve been pregnant, although with my first child I didn’t touch it. What is your experience with fish and pregnancy? What facts do you know that you can share with me? Thankyou so much!
A: The packet the nurse gave me said two 6 oz. servings per week is acceptable. Albacore tuna is a no-no though. The fish REALLY high in mercury are shark, mackeral, swordfish, and other very large fish. The book…From the Hips actually has a great chart that lays out each type of seafood and where it is ranked in the amount of mercury and PHBs found in each.*As an added note: Studies show that women who ate fish (including tuna) throughout their pregnancy improves their child’s cognitive development.
Is it ok to eat a tuna sandwich while you’re pregnant?
Q: I know you can not eat more then 6oz.Having 2 tuna sandwich is it ok? I haven’t had any tuna sandwich when I got pregnant, just a bit of salmon but rarely.I am currently 6 months & 3 days pregnant (24 weeks & 3 days)Thanks! =) xoxo
A: It is okay to eat tuna and other fish but just limit it too once or twice a week. Its the mercury in high amounts in the fish that can cause problems in a developing fetus. I ate tuna once a week and my baby was healthy. Just limit it and you will be okay.
