once you find out your pregnant, how long is it ok to sleep on your stomach?
Q: how long is it okay to sleep on your stomach when you’re pregnant. (obviously before you have the huge bump)
A: Hey evol,I am 15 weeks pregnant, and having been through two early miscarriages in the past, I have been doing a LOT of reading about pregnancy do’s and don’ts ever since I found out, so I can give my baby every possible benefit. In all of the books I’ve read so far, it is very strongly suggested that pregnant women sleep on their sides from 16 weeks of pregnancy on. Apparently sleeping on your stomach after about this time puts extra pressure on your growing uterus, even though you don’t have a big bump yet. Sleeping flat on your back past this point is also not a good idea because it means your bigger and heavier uterus is sitting on top of two major blood vessels (the aorta and inferior vena cava). This can cut off some of the blood flow, and therefore nutrients and oxygen, going to your baby. Pregnant women have in the past and still do sleep in other positions, but from a medical standpoint, it sounds like it can be, and has been, harmful to the baby in some cases. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth the risk, and I’ve been spending the last few weeks getting used to sleeping on my side. Apparently extra pillows or a body pillow can help a lot – if you put them up against your back they can help you stay on your side, and if you do happen to roll over in your sleep, it will be up against the pillow instead of flat on your back.I’m going to miss sleeping on my stomach for the next 5 months, but it will also be something else to look forward to after my baby is born :)Good luck!
Till When Is It OK To Sleep OnYour Stomach?
Q: I know it’s bad to sleep on your stomach, but up till when is it ok? I’ve been trying to wean myself off of sleeping on my stomach, because before I got pregnant, that’s how I would sleep most of the time. I woke up in the middle of the night last night and I was on my stomach. I’m almost 9 weeks and want to know till when do you think it’s ok to sleep like that?
A: You can do it your entire pregnancy as long as you feel comfortable.I’m 18 weeks and I feel far more comfortable on my belly with a leg on a pillow than on my left side.
