Yes, tubal ligation has a failure rate of .1% (one-tenth of one percent), which is about the same failure rate as a vasectomy.

A: Hi there,I am so sorry that you are in this situation. I had my tubes tied many years ago and it was the worst decision that I ever made. These are the facts, the chances of you getting pregnant without any surgical intervention are so small that they are not even worth thinking about. I knew a woman that this happened to but statistically the chances are almost zero. The surgery is expensive and by no means a guarantee. Surgery to reverse a tubal ligation is called “reanastomosis” and requires extreme skill on the part of the surgeon. Your fallopian tubes are very delicate and the surgery to “put them back” the way they were is very delicate also. Your odds of getting pregnant after the surgery are still not that high. Much depends on the method that was used to accomplish the ligation. Cauterization tends to destroy a significant part of the tube. Clips and rings destroy less of the tube. If you do not know what type of surgery you had you would probably need a Laproscopic examination to determine just what condition your tubes are really in. This would give you a better idea of whether or not a reversal would be likely to be successful.Tubal ligation should always be considered permanent. I do however understand how you feel and the procedures to undo this surgery are getting better all the time. I would encourage you to see a doctor who specializes in this type of procedure and see what she says to you.I am afraid that there is no way to get an insurance company to help you with the expense involved though. I am sure that the surgery is in the $20,000 range tho you can get more accurate figures when you actually see a doctor.I wish you all the luck in the world. I had to have my tubes tied for medical reasons but I have always regretted the decision. I was lucky in that I was able to adopt but that is of course not the same thing.Find a good doctor and at least go for the first consultation. Get the facts and then you can make an educated decision.Again, good luck!Love and BlessingsLady T~
How possible is it to get pregnant if your tubes were tied 8 years ago?
Q: My tubes were tied after I had my son 8 almost 9 years ago. Is it possible to get pregnant?
A: I have heard of it happening. There is only one good way of knowing if you can get pregnant for sure is by asking your doctor. I know sometimes an egg can release in your body not into your Uterus and get fertile it can cause serious problems. A pregnancy test will come out positive. If it does and your tubes are tied get your butt in to the doctors. It happened to my best friend she almost died.
Is it possible to get pregnant after having your tubes tied?
Q: I just had a baby on August 30, 2006 and so on Oct. 18, 2006 i got my tubes tied because that was my third child and me and my husband decided that it was enough. Well I had a pregnancy test before getting my tubes tied and 2 days after getting it done i got my first period, and havent had one since, i am having nauseasness in the morning and eating like crazy, i have sore nipples and i dont know if this is just my imagination or if i might be pregnant?
A: It is possible. I had my tubes tied 5 years ago after baby #4 and at that time, my Dr. told me that the failure rate is the highest in the first 5 years after having them tied. The percentage of failure also depends on the method used to tie the tubes. The band method(where they place a band around a small section of the tubes) has the highest failure rate. Cut and burned has the lowest. Take a pregnancy test and contact your Dr. I would say you are probably NOT pregnant. It is most likely a side effect of the tubal. There are many things that will change after having tubes tied.
