Q: I have some pregnancy symptoms. Like every morning I wake up feeling like i’m going to be sick. But I never throw up. I’m always tired. I eat and drink a lot of things. I pee all the time. I have tons of discharge. My boobs have gotten a Little bigger. Sometimes I will be hot then cold then hot again. Sometimes I have really bad mood swings. I haven’t had my period for 1 month about 2. But I know I’m not pregnant! Because I’m still a virgin. But at camp I had sat in a chair and when I sat down I noticed it was a little wet which I thought was kinda strange. I don’t know what it was. And a part of me doesn’t want to know. What do you think is wrong with me??I do have diabetes..Does this have to do with anything??
A: well, if you’re still a virgin, then you’re definitely not pregnant unless you’ve been getting very, very close with a guy…you pee all of the time because you eat and drink a lot of things..and because you’re diabetic, because diabetics have extreme thirst sometimes and feel like they have to pee a lot..usually this is caused by one and contributes to the otheryou wake up feeling sick…it could be because of eating too late before going to bed, or a medicine you’re taking, anything can cause a nauseous feeling when you first wake up, maybe not getting enough sleep, and that could be the reason you’re always tiredyou sound very young, honestly, so you could just be going through some hormonal changes that cause the discharge (or it could be an infection) but its more likely your body is just changing since your boobs are growing. And, thats another reason for the temperature fluctuations. Any hormonal imbalance will cause things like this to happen. Your period will be off for a while after starting puberty. You may get it one month, and then not get it again for a year. Nobody’s is regular for a few years after starting, and usually grown women’s aren’t regulated unless they’re on birth control. As for sitting on something wet….okay, so you do know at this point that sperm has to come into contact with your vagina for there to even be a possibility of pregnancy? Did you know it is actually a very tedious process of becoming pregnant? There are so many issues and barriers that sperm have to deal with when traveling to reach the egg. And there actually only 2-4 days out of the month that a woman can actually become pregnant due to whether or not the egg is ready. So, lets say if that was sperm on the seat, and you sat down, well hopefully the chair was in a private place and some dude wasnt beating off in the mess hall, but anyway…hopefully, if it was sperm, you were wearing clothes when you sat down. Sperm cannot travel through shorts and underwear and then swim their way to your vagina. Now, the sperm would’ve had to have been there for no more than 10 minutes because contact with air dries it out and kills it. And it also has to stay warm, body temp warm. Even if you sat in less than 10 minute old sperm, theres no way it could have entered your body. You will learn as you go through countless anatomy classes, that certain things just arent possible. Its hard enough for most people to get pregnant. Now if you are, and you’ve never had sex, then we will have ourselves another miracle child. I wouldn’t worry about these issues. You’re fine. You’re just young and uneducated about the birds and the bees. Don’t feel bad, you will learn along the way. I’ve honestly met pregnant girls in my college classes that are 6 months along and have no clue how they got like that! Its really sad too. Its very important that women be educated about these issues. But I think your symptoms are all in your head, and you’re definitely not pregnant, unless theres something you’re not telling us, then you are fine! Pregnancy symptoms are very general symptoms than can be an underlying clue to ANYTHING! so if something is still feeling off in a few months, go to the doctor. You could have something very wrong with you that has nothing to do with pregnancy.
OMG!!!! Could I Be Pregnant?!?!?!?
Q: I know that many people get WORRIED that they may or may not be pregnant. YES! Your PMS symptoms could be the same As pregnancy symptoms. So… I have compiled a list of symptoms, when they should start and what else it could be if it is not pregnancy. If you missed a period… Take A Test!!Implantation Bleeding:Implantation bleeding can be one of the earliest pregnancy symptoms. About 6-12 days after conception, the embryo implants itself into the uterine wall. Some women will experience spotting as well as some cramping.Other Explanations: Actual menstruation, altered menstruation, changes in birth control pill, infection, or abrasion from intercourse.Delay/Difference in Menstruation:A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom leading a woman to test for pregnancy. When you become pregnant, your next period should be missed. Many women can bleed while they are pregnant, but typically the bleeding will be shorter or lighter than a normal period.Other Explanations: Excessive weight gain/loss, fatigue, hormonal problems, tension, stress, ceasing to take the birth control pill, or breast-feeding.Swollen/Tender Breasts:Swollen or tender breasts is a pregnancy symptom which may begin as early as 1-2 weeks after conception. Women may notice changes in their breasts; they may be tender to the touch, sore, or swollen.Other Explanations: Hormonal imbalance, birth control pills, impending menstruation (PMS) can also cause your breasts to be swollen or tender.Fatigue/Tiredness:Feeling fatigued or more tired is a pregnancy symptom which can also start as early as the first week after conception.Other Explanations: Stress, exhaustion, depression, common cold or flu, or other illnesses can also leave you feeling tired or fatigued.Nausea/Morning Sickness:This well-known pregnancy symptom will often show up between 2-8 weeks after conception. Some women are fortunate to not deal with morning sickness at all, while others will feel nauseous throughout most of their pregnancy.Other Explanations: Food poisoning, stress, or other stomach disorders can also cause you to feel queasy.Backaches:Lower backaches may be a symptom that occurs early in pregnancy; however, it is common to experience a dull backache throughout an entire pregnancy.Other Explanations: Impending menstruation, stress, other back problems, and physical or mental strains.Headaches:The sudden rise of hormones in your body can cause you to have headaches early in pregnancy.Other Explanations: Dehydration, caffeine withdrawal, impending menstruation, eye strain, or other ailments can be the source of frequent or chronic headaches.Frequent Urination:Around 6-8 weeks after conception, you may find yourself making a few extra trips to the bathroom.Other Explanations: Urinary tract infection, diabetes, increasing liquid intake, or taking excessive diuretics.Darkening of Areolas:If you are pregnant, the skin around your nipples may get darker.Other Explanations: Hormonal imbalance unrelated to pregnancy or may be a leftover effect from a previous pregnancy.Food Cravings:While you may not have a strong desire to eat pickles and ice cream, many women will feel cravings for certain foods when they are pregnant. This can last throughout your entire pregnancy.Other Explanations: Poor diet, lack of a certain nutrient, stress, depression, or impending menstruation.http://www.americanpregnancy.org/gettingpregnant/earlypregnancysymptoms.html

Mystery autoimmune disorder – help!?
Q: I have been to more doctors than I can count and have decided to post a question here to see if anyone recognizes what I describe. Approximately 9 years ago, I noticed a decreased ability to squeeze the shampoo bottle, do anything strenuous with my left hand. I am a left handed individual. I began to experience pain and swelling in my left forearm (it was visibly swollen and had redness where the swelling was). I went to my PCP and he referred me to an orthopedist. The orthopedist tested me for MS, lyme disease, and Sleep Apnea. We had the nerve conduction test on my arm and hands. All negative. He referred me to a muscular specialist, neurologist, and hematologist. All tests came up negative for any known disorder. The hematologist suggested it was a psychosomatic illness. This happened over the course of a year and a half. By that time, my left arm, leg, and calf had swollen and eventually had atrophy. My left hand is is in a permanent claw like state from the compression on the tendons in my arm. When the “illness” is at its worst, I get muscle spasms on both sides of my face. I have the appearance of very slight palsy on my right side from the “contractions” I would have in my face. My speech gets affected as well. Extremes of any temperature affect it also. I have been taking Skelaxin for all these years. In 2003, my right side started to manifest the same symptoms as my left side. The welling had travelled to my thighs and bicep on my left arm and started swelling in my right forearm. This was when I began to suspect an autoimmune disorder. I went BACK to my PCP and asked him to re-look at all my symptoms and see what we could find. We went thru all kinds of tests again and the only thing we came up with was that I have psoriatic arthritis — which is not related to this disorder. He has been patient and kind with me. I asked him if he thought it was a psychological illness of some kind and he emphatically disagreed with that concept. I saw the top neurologist and muscular specialist @ YAle New Haven Medical Center. They have chalked it up to being an autoimmune disorder of some kind and he just doesn’t know what it is. When I became pregnant last July, I was concerned that going off meds would make my muscles work. He said it would be one more way to confirm this was indeed autoimmune. According to him, autoimune disorders take a leave of absence most times during the pregnancy, but come back with a vengeance post delivery. He was correct. My son is now 8 months old and I have serious concerns about how long I can go on like this. I have fallen twice with him — once while he was in the carrier and recently while he was in my arms. I know this is lengthy, but if you recognize these symptoms or know of someone I can see, I’d greatly appreciate it
A: It might very well be Lyme disease and/or other tick-borne infections. The lab tests for Lyme disease are notoriously unreliable, so it hasn’t actually been ruled out in your case. (Lyme can cause every symptom you mention, and sometimes seems to trigger other autoimmune problems.)I recommend you read the following websites, and join the patient discussion group at lymenet.org. If, after that, you think you might in fact have Lyme and/or coinfections, I recommend you see an ILADS-affiliated doctor.Be advised that Lyme disease is a controversial diagnosis in the medical world. Which doesn’t mean you don’t have it. Read the info, and make up your own mind as to how to proceed.Good sources of info about Lyme disease:http://www.lymedisease.orghttp://www.canlyme.comhttp://www.lymenet.orghttp://www.lymeinfo.nethttp://www.lymediseaseassociation.orghttp://www.ilads.orghttp://www.betterhealthguy.comhttp://www.publichealthalert.com
