What are the side effects of Accutane going to be like?
Q: For those of you who have been on accutane, I would just like to know what exactly the side effects were like for you? I know that it can really dry out your skin and lips. When you were on it, did your skin and lips peel? If so, how bad? Did it get to a point where you looked gross? If so, how long did that last? Where you that dry the whole time you were on the medicine, or did it go away after awhile? Can I keep myself looking pretty normal if I use good chapstick and moisturizer? I have been taking it for one week now and all I have so far is lips that are a little dry. Thanks in advance for any help you may have to offer.
A: i, personally, experienced very little side effects. the only other thing than dry skin was the occasional nose bleed, which was very mild. the dry skin is inevitable but also wasn’t anything that a good moisturizer couldn’t combat. my lips were probably the most hassle because my lips get dry really easy anyway. i highly recommended aveeno brand chapstick. it works wonders. so long as you don’t suffer from any of the severe side effects (i.e. depression, harsh mood swings, etc) you’ll be so happy with the outcome. i think you’ll be able to keep yourself looking pretty normal. however, side effects are different depending on the person. you’ll begin to see results faster than you think. it’s an amazing (though potentionally dangerous) product. glad i took a risk.

What are the health risks and side effects of taking accutane?
Q: My dermatologist wants me to go on accutane for 6 months, but I’m not sure if it’s really worth all of the things that come along with it if my acne isn’t completely terrible. Can someone let me know about the risks and side effects and if it’s really worth the entire process (i.e. required birth control, monthly pregnancy tests, etc.)?
A: You would be required to take a pregnancy test before hand, to verify you are not pregnant. When taking Isotrentoin it can kill a baby by causing you to miscarry or cause birth defects or even worse death of the baby. When being a woman who needs this medication it is a very serious thing. You put yourself at such a high risk, but also there is an increase in suicidal thought when taking it. I work in a pharmacy as a technician and have been there for almost 3 years now and I have really only met 2 ppl in that time that were taking this medication. There are a lot of alternatives out there, that 1. don’t cost as much and 2. are not a risk for your health and safety. Try checking into Retin-a creams and gels. The creams have a generic which is cheaper for your insurance company and a cheaper copay for your self. hope this help
