8 weeks pregnant with PCOS, why is my ovary hurting so badly???
Q: My first prenatal appointment is tomorrow so I am going to ask but I’m just freaked out right now. I will be 8 weeks pregnant tomorrow and my right ovary has been cramping pretty badly on and off for the past week now. I realize that the uterus stretches and causes cramps and also that round ligaments can cause cramping. However, I know what this is. It feels as if I am ovulating in my right ovary. The pain was so intense the other day that I had to take Tylenol and lay perfectly still until it finally went away. I have had no bleeding what so ever and have had other normal symptoms such as nausea, tender breasts and bloating. What is causing this cramping? Could it be a sign of a tubal pregnancy? I have PCOS and am very concerned that I am going to have a miscarriage. Has anyone else experienced this sort of cramping before and if so what was the cause? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!
A: If I was you I’d get it checked out asap. It sounds like you may be having an eptopic pregnancy so it’s best to rule it out asap as it can be life threatening. However it could be a number of other things, such as your body changing and stretching. I hope everything turns out all right for you x
Questions about ectopic pregnancies?
Q: Hi all, I am hoping someone can help me. Yesterday I started having a sort of pain in my right lower abdomen, in the area where my right ovary is. It is not cramping, not sharp per se, and not throbbing, I really don’t know how to explain it. It only happens when I bend over, bend to sit or bend in bed while moving during my sleep. Well, I was reading about some causes and read that one was ectopic pregnancy. Coincidentally, my period is late. All the articles I read said that ectopic pregnancy symptoms are lower abdominal cramping, nausea, and bleeding. I have had this “pain” but it is definitely nothing like cramps. On a pain scale of 1 to 10 I would say it is about 3. Not really sure what to think right now, and was hoping someone could maybe give me some advice. I cannot get into the doctor until April 13, so I need to know if maybe I should go to the emergency room or just wait.
A: Pain in your lower abdomen during movement can also be caused by a hernia in your intestines, often caused by heavy lifting. So, you can’t really narrow it down to an ectopic pregnancy. The only way you’ll be able to tell is if you take a pregnancy test, you’ll have to wait to see your doctor.
Could the ovarian cyst be what has been causing this pain???
Q: Ok about 9 mths ago I started to get this pain in my groin area and lots of cramps in my lower stomach. I have the Mirena IUD also. Anyways the pain has been getting worse and worse like everyday allday and then last week I started to bleed clots. At my last CT scan they found a cyst on my ovary and it was about 2-4 cm. The pain is only brought on when standing or walking. I have had lots of ultrasounds and ct’s done and they finally found this. COuld the pain be from the cyst? I have felt nausea and all the symptoms above. If it was there before why wasn’t it found? What can be done now? Also my blood work showed elivated white count? PLEASE HELP. I have dr tomorrow and I am freaking out and I just don’t feel good. Also I have been having fevers off and on.I have had the IUD for 2 yrs and the pains started 9 mths ago. Could that be it? If so why would it wait over a yr to start. TIA
A: There is no substitute for the doctor but I’ll share some info with you. There is a chance that your symptoms could be a side effect of the Mirena IUD – ironic since it is usually implanted to help with excessive menstrual bleeding and it’s known to reduce the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease as well. Side effects are cramps, back pain, nausea. You didn’t say how long you’ve had it. It’s only supposed to be in for 5 years. An elevated white blood cell count signifies infection which would also explain the fever. There can be a lot of explanations for pain in the pelvic area. A cyst could cause pain if it ruptures or twists around its blood supply. A miscarriage would cause the clots and pain (doesn’t sound like that’s the cause though). An ovary can twist and that would cause pain.Make a list of all your symptoms and discuss your concerns with the doctor. Ask him/her if the IUD could be the problem. Here are some references.Good luck and God bless.
