What’s amazing is that the CDC says pregnant women are among those who SHOULD pay $30 or so and be vaccinated, but the news article says if you’re pregnant you shouldn’t get the nasal spray because it contains “bits” of the live virus. You think all pregnant women know about these “bits” of live virus? If you think they’ll all get sound advice from their pediatricians, remember: You don’t need a prescription to get the flu vaccine. Still, the article reassures us all that the injected vaccine has been “made from virus biologically defanged so that it cannot cause the flu.” Defanged? The article suggests apparently there’s something really wrong with you if you a)don’t trust that the vaccine is safe or b)prefer not to get it. Apparently, the message isn’t getting out how “We have cut no corners,” insists the chief of the CDC Centers to maintain “the same safety safeguards” as all flu vaccines. You mean the same “safety safeguards” like allowing companies to continue using Thimerosal (toxic mercury preservative) as a preservative? You might be able to request a vial of the vaccine without Thimerosal, as pregnant women are urged to do even by the CDC (quite telling how “safe” they know the Thimerosal version of vaccine may be), but do you really think all pregnant women will know this? It’s much easier to keep hearing “It’s safe” over and over again than it is to see what precautions exist for something called Thimerosal. And is there any real way to know for sure if that guy at Walgreens or Walmart is actually injecting you with the mercury-free version of the vaccine? When a pregnant woman who might be nervous about her fetus’s response to an injected vaccine wants to buy the nasal spray instead, you really think they will refuse to sell it to her? The article makes sure to inform us that, “An independent panel of scientists, commissioned by the federal government, concluded in 2004 that there was no LINK [my emphasis] between thimerosal in childhood vaccines and neurological disorders.” Wrong. There was no statistically significant CORRELATION found in the group providing the data for the study. It’s unethical to do the experiments that would be necessary to see under what conditions does Thimerosal cause neurological disorders, cognitive deficits (not studied), or psychiatric illness (not studied) in human beings. Until then? You really don’t know.The journalist skillfully ends the article with the words of one mother almost too hard to believe if you’re not statistic-phobic enough to ignore the small chart this same article indicates are the percentage of people polled agreeing that they’ll get the vaccine (40%).”‘Everyone is doing it,'” she says. It is wayy over talked about. ,its like listening to a song and then it skips on one part of the song and you have to listen to that same part over and over and over till you fix it. People are overreacting. they think that just cause someone went to mexico they have the swine flu. we’ll not everyone gets it when they go there. people are wearing masks everywhere and its super annoying because if you do get infected it would be just like getting the flu except a little bit worse. all you would have to do is go to the doctor and have them check you. and then give the vaccine, then its all over. you wouldn’t die from it, unless you waited for a long time to go to the doctor, like the people in mexico, if you did that then you would most likely die, How do you think the regular flu came about? a virus was spread, people panicked, some died cause they didn’t know what to do, then they found a vaccine and people calmed down and forgot about it. the same thing is going to happen with this. the swine flu is just like the “west nile virus” and the “bird flu” people overly panicked with those too, and now i bet you don’t even remember those. i completely forgot about those till this morning. i’m gunna write more tomorrow. 4/29/09 11:11pm
