If you fall pregnant whilst on the pill and continue taking the pill what will happen?
Q: I was taking antibiotics and didn’t use another form of contraception as I didn’t realise antibiotics could have an impact on the effectivness of the pill. I now believe I may be pregnant. Should I stop taking the pill? If I continue to take the pill will this mean I will have a miscarriage? Or is it that once you are preganant the pill does nothing to harm the pregnancy? Although I have a long term partner I do not feel ready to have a baby and as awful as it sounds, if taking the pill may stop the possible pregnancy I would prefer to do this. Please help!!
A: You don’t mention in your question if you are late or not, so, if you are late, take a home pregnancy to find out. If you are not late but fear you may be, go to your doctor and request a blood sample. Antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of your birth control, and it is very easy to forget that. I do not think taking the pill is going to stop the pregnancy if it has already happened. The bet thing to do is to take a test and go from there. Good luck!
What if I am taking my pills and I did not notice that I got pregnant, and still continued taking it?
Q: NEED EXPERT ACVICE PLEASE:I mean, say I am in the middle of my pill pack and while I am not through, a baby was developed unknowing to me, and I continued to take the pill up to the last dose – what will happen to the baby? Will I still bleed after I take the pill? Because you were supposed to bleed afterwards right? Will it cause damage to the baby?
A: I think the chances of your baby being harmed are pretty low, as I’m sure this has happened to MANY people. You can talk to your OB/GYN, he should be able to reassure you on this. Your baby is more than likely fine. If you are pregnant, the is a pretty good chance that you won’t bleed, as it generally stops when conception occurs. But it isn’t unheard of to have a period or spotting while being a couple of weeks pregnant. I had that happen to me when I was pregnant with my son, which is why they thought I was due in April based on my last period, but after my ultrasound, they moved my due date up a month.
What happens if you start taking your pill again from the second day of your period?
Q: Ok i did something really stupid n m freaked out! Lets not get into the reasons, I stopped my pill on wednesday and got my period on thursday and then i took the pill again on friday and saturday and i am still having my period but its not strong at all, its not flowing freely. What will happen if i continue taking it, what should i do now?
A: Right, if you were due to stop taking the pill on the wednesday then I would just stop taking it altogether now and let the period run its course. (it may be a bit longer and more inconsistant than normal tho). And then preferrably start a fresh packet so you know where you are again (assuming that you have the pills with the days written on them too!). If you have merely forgotten to take it and you are not due a period yet I would just continue to take it until you were originally due to stop. (This will result in having another period soon, although if you keep taking it you may find this one will stop anyway). I would not recommend having unprotected sex during this time as there is a chance that the pill will not be working properly until you start a fresh pack. I am not a medical professional so do not take it as gospel, and if you are worried about it I would say to speak to you doctor just to be sure. But this is just what I would do (and have done many a time! lol)Good Luck!
