Is first day of missed period too soon to test for pregnancy?

Q: The last day of my last period was 4/30/07. According to an over the counter ovulation test i ovulated on May 17th. I had intercourse on the 13th, 15, 17th and 18th. My period was due on 5/31/07 and i didnt get my period. A few days ago i started getting flu like symptoms and my nipples are very sensitive. I don’t have any premenstrual symptoms though. A few sharp short cramps every once in a while a few days ago and one yesterday. I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. Did I test too early? I’ve only been TTC for about 4 months but i know its not impossible to get pregnant this early into trying. What do you think? Tested too early or getting my hopes up for nothing if test said not pregnant?

A: No it’s not, at least for most women. However, if you don’t get your period after a week, just retest. Some women take longer to produce enough pregnancy hormones for the tests to detect. Good luck!

Q: Yes, I’ve been on my birth control now for approx. 6 months and in the last couple months I have missed 2-3 consecutive pills in one pack (for a couple packs, but still get my period), now within the last month and a half I’ve had sore breasts (which I never get unless I’m pregnant) and I’ve gotten my period and it seems regular as well but the tenderness in my breasts is not going away and I’ve taken a pregnancy test and it came up negative but I don’t understand what the heck is going on. Hopefully you have some answers for me. I’ve also phoned and spoken to a nurse and she does say that urine tests take up to 3 weeks to be determined if you are pregnant and blood tests take a week. I’ve also been feeling strange kicking feelings in my stomach as if I am pregnant but that would mean I would have to be further along and forsure why would the pregnancy test come up negative if I was that far along? Please help

A: Well, you’ve screwed up your system by missing so many pills. You need to make sure you get on schedule with them and stop missing pills.If you were pregnant, you’d be far enough along for a test to show it.

Q: Ok, here is the deal. Today is November 25, 2006. I had my last period on October 4, 2006. My husband and I decided we were going to start trying for a baby on November 4, 2006. I am on vacation right now out of state and wont be back til the 5th of December, so there for I cant see my OBGYN until I get back, any ideas? A: I’ll let you in on something. I know everyone says they have negative results. I had my last period on July 19, 06. In August I skipped my period and haven’t had one since. I didn’t test for pregnancy until early September because I didn’t know I was pregnant til the end of August. I started to get signs and symptoms then. So it was way later when I tested. As soon as I took the test it came back postivie immediately. So I think sometimes waiting is the key in some circumstances. I couldn’t get into the doctor until I was 10 weeks pregnant anyway. So just wait another week and good luck. 🙂
