Q: Hi everyone, well i need to now what are/is the best ways to sleep while pregnant, ive heard its not good to sleep face down, obvious, but ive also heard it not to good to sleep face up either, some people say in there side is better, but im not really sure, you woman that are pregnant or were pregnant out there, what sleeping positions work better for you. Thanks everyone.Have so many great answers.
A: OK so I slept on my stomach until I couldn’t anymore, you will not squash your baby, it will get uncomfortable before you could do any harm. Sleeping on your back is not advisable from second trimester onwards as the weight of your baby and uterus can put pressure on your major arteries/veins and restrict blood flow to the placenta and lower organs, defiantly don’t sleep on your back in the 3rd trimester. Sleeping on your left side is the best position, but I’m now 40 weeks and previously a stomach sleeper so I find this so uncomfortable, the only thing that helps are lots of pillows for support everywhere.
Best Way To Sleep While Pregnant?
Q: I am 24 weeks and I can not sleep for anything. I always slept on my back and now I keep hearing that I should sleep on my side. My thing is I start off on my side but end up on half my stomach and half my side. I end up getting scared because I think I’m crushing the baby. I tired the whole using pillows but I wake up with them on the floor. I Need Sleep. Does anybody know what else I can do? Does sleeping half stomach and half side bab for the baby?
A: Laying partly on your stomach won’t hurt the baby due to all of the fluid cushioning. They say that you should not lie on your back because the baby does not get enough oxygen when you are in this position. When you lie on your back, the weight of the pregnant uterus slows the return of blood to your heart, which reduces blood flow to the fetus. That means the baby is getting less oxygen and fewer nutrients. In the same vein, they also caution against sit-ups and other exercises that have you on your back. I think most docs would say that you shouldn’t stress over rolling on your back during sleep. It’s just something you don’t want to make a point of. I used to wake up quite frequently and find myself on my back. It was the weight of the fetus bearing down that woke me, and believe me, you would not even want to choose that position. I am now 30 wks and never roll on my back anymore because my body just can’t roll so easily anymore with 20 extra lbs all in the belly. Like I said, lying slightly on your stomach won’t hurt. Besides, give it a few weeks and I doubt your belly will even allow you to lie that way anymore.
What is the best way to sleep while pregnant?
Q: I have read about every article on sleep positions while pregnant. I even asked my doctor. She advised me to sleep on my left side so I have been. But now I am not getting any sleep. I used to love laying on my left side but now its getting too routine and I cannot stand it. I only do it for my little man.My mom told me that she was not told not to lay on her right side until she was in labor. I want to lay on my right side so bad but I think it is bad for the baby. A lot of articles say avoid the back and my doc said that so I know the back is off limits, plus its not comfy for me. But have you ever been told to avoid laying on your right side? If so, why? I am also high risk, but because I am type 1 diabetic. So the way I am laying shouldn’t have anything to do with my diabetes.Any advice?
A: It is advised to lay on your left side…But really you can lay on either side. I know I sure did! I went from side to side All night long when I was pregnant.Just dont lay on your back for a long period of time because it can put pressure on the major blood supply to the placenta and baby. I wouldn’t worry get comfortable hun, You dont get much sleep after the baby is here so you might as well get sleep now!!!
