Extreme period pain, feeling faint, and sweats…?
Q: Hope this doesn’t scare off some of those who have a short attention span/hate reading long questions, so I’ll say that the most important parts are the first 2/3 ;). But thanks in advance if you read everything. I want to get an idea of what this is before I go see a doctor/gynecologistThis kind of pain is not regular, it’s actually only happened twice: today and last July. Both episodes happened a few minutes after I got out of bed. I felt a bit dizzy and too weak to stand, but the pain seemed to get worse when I sat or lay down. When I was standing I didn’t feel out of breath, but it felt like I could tolerate the pain better if I took in a lot of breaths, like how some pregnant women in labor do. When I lay down, I didn’t feel like breathing that much, but the pain seemed to get worse. I ended up lying down and the pain was so bad I kept squirming (it felt better than staying still) and making pained noises. It felt like my pelvic region was going to burst. I felt hot and cold at the same time… it felt hot whether it actually was or not, and I was sweating, but my skin felt cool. This didn’t happen all day. Today it lasted for about 45 min (pamprin and a Chinese herbal oil helped), and that first time was less than 2 hours I think. Normally, I still have cramps and some pain, but they are tolerable, and the worst of it only happens on the first or second day. My periods come regularly: 6-7 consecutive days each month. They aren’t too heavy, but not light. I go through 2-3 pads on my heaviest day, and even then they’re not completely filled out. I also get clots (also happened junior year). The biggest I think was the size of a quarter. I only really feel any sort of pain/cramping on the first/second day, and occasionally a very slight discomfort the next day. After that, nothing. Also, I’m 18.What I noticed this time around that was different from other times is that I ate more fatty foods than usual (mostly cheez its and nutella) and less fruits (except for this one week where I ate a serving of blueberries everyday). I ate Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast a few times a week (at least 100% serving of iron each time. Maybe I consumed too much iron?). For about 2 weeks between this and my last period, I felt very, and unusually, depressed (probably the first time I ever felt like that). Before, and a little during, my depression, I had a bad headache. As for that first time I felt the pain, I don’t remember what I did before.I also noticed that both of these period pains happened the month after school vacation started, which meant a sudden change in activity levels (from lots of walking to a lot less walking)…I guess you don’t have to read this next part, but it’s some extra details that might help:Before my junior year in hs, I don’t recall ever feeling period pain or other side effects. During that time I also ran at least once every weekend and I had tae kwon do classes, so I was regularly active. I don’t remember how heavy my periods were though. During junior year and up to now, I had stopped taking tae kwon do, and stopped running because of all the work that I was getting from teachers (IB student here ;P) and because I was getting a bit lazy. My eating habits were/are still pretty much the same. It was then that I started to have painful cramps.I am a few pounds overweight; have been since about 9th grade, even when I was exercising regularly (I love junk food v.v). My BMI is 24.9, so apparently I’m on the border of a normal weight and being overweight. Though my mirror tells me I’m more of the latter ;PThere might be a few other things I’m forgetting but this is already pretty long X)
A: You could have hormonal balance problems I know of one condition when your hormones are out of wack that causes all sorts of issues… called PCOS, poly cystic ovarian syndrome. Look up the symptoms online, it does cause weight issues. I have PCOS but it is very manageable for me by taking Yaz. When I was in college I had similar symptoms to yours… feeling light headed, almost passing out. Woman can be slightly anemic to very anemic during their periods so it is important to eat foods high in iron. Also, it is not a good idea to skip meals during your period, you need the nutrition for energy then.I would also talk to the doctor about possibly having ovarian cysts. I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured on my right hand side… it hurt so badly, it felt like gas on steroids, had to stay in bed and then went to ER. I would got to your OBGYN and I would also mention that you would like to see a qualified endocrinologist if you look into PCOS and have at least some of the symptoms. Good luck.
Whelping complications continued…..?
Q: Original Question here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvWXpp8jTq7PTe1_qR3NvxHsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090524043651AAplhSnBelieve me there is nothing I would like right now then to take my dog to the vet. However I live in a small town with one vet who seems to not be reachable today. During the pregnancy I kept in contact with the vet and researched and applied everything I could. It’s not like I just sat back and let nature do all the work. If you read the previous question. She did birth one pup fine. Once it became apparent that there was a problem I took her to the vet who upon examination found 2 more pups and told me that one of the two was deceased. He gave her an injection to get contractions going and within half an hour the 2nd healthy pup was born. That was Friday. Saturday evening she birthed the deceased pup. My first concern is infection of course becuse of the deceased pup. Metritis would probably be the main culprit in this case so I looked up the symptoms. * Discharge from the vulva that smells bad; discharge with pus, or pus mixed with blood; discharge that is dark green: At first after the birth of the deceased pup yes there was some foul dark colored discharge going on. However as time passed the discharge has become far less potent bearing on no smell at all and is now clear.* Swollen, dough-like abdomen- No, she does not have this one. As a matter of fact she looks famished. Which stands to reason because I was feeding her 2-3 times the usual amount of food required and she was huge while pregnant. I don’t get this at all. She did stop eating a day before the birth and hasn’t had much if anything since. Nearly 3 days. * Dehydration- She does seem to be a tad dehydrated but it doesn’t seem severe. Her nose is cool and wet, she has watery eyes, her skin doesn’t snap back into place but it doesn’t stay pinched either. She does go to the water bowl about once every hour for a good drink.* Dark red gums- They are not Dark red but bright red if not pink. * Fever- This I haven’t been able to check but as soon as I can I will. * Reduced milk production- The two surviving pups feed well and are not whiny and nap good and have fat little bodies. That may just be her original milk production though. * Depression- She was never really a lively dog. She was given to us by someone who had 4 other dachshunds and they said the other dogs used to pick fights with her a lot. She has always been distant but loves wagging her tail when she is in a loving mood. After the first pup was born she was walking around wagging her tail. I haven’t seen it today though.Lack of appetite- She won’t eat anything offered to her.* Neglect of puppies- No she takes care of them well. Let’s them suckle and licks them from time to time. * Increased heart rate if the bacterial infection has become systemic- Doesn’t seem fast to me when compared to our male.So taking all this into consideration should I be worried or not? The one I really don’t like is the not eating. She isn’t vomiting the water or anything like that. She isn’t frequently urinating either.I will get her spayed as soon as she is ready for it. I’ll never have puppies again. Might stud out our male though.@Love- The Male is actually a pretty good specimen. Smart and very healthy. The female was smaller and like I said she did have the personality problems. Believe me when I say I have learned my lesson from this experience.@Brooker- I’m burnt out man. I’ve been on consant watch since Friday. Maybe 7-8 hours of sleep since then.I took her temp and it is 102.1. trying a few things to try to get her to eat.
A: All these complications and you STILL want to stud out your dog and produce poorly bred, overbred animals? WOW….Maybe losing your dog to birthing complications will teach you. Probably not, but we can only hope
