A: I work in a sleep disorders center and we have patients like you everyday. There definitely are tricks to getting to sleep earlier.Ok first of all, yes sleeping until 12 will make it more difficult to go to sleep at night. If you want to go to bed earlier, wake up earlier.When you lay down for the night lay down and try to sleep, if after 20 minutes you’re still laying there, get up. Only lay in bed when you are tired. Drink a warm glass of milk or tea, take a warm shower, read a book, take a short walk, or surf the internet for a bit. When you get fatigued, lay down. Repeat this until you fall asleep. Make it a rule though, do not spend more than 20 minutes in bed lying awake. Try not to sleep with the TV or lights on, that can make it more difficult. Try to clear your mind before laying down in bed, don’t bring stress with you to bed (very very difficult.. I’m a guilty one of doing this!). If you like music, try to put in some meditation music while falling asleep, that will help you relax.Good luck… I hope you can get some sleep soon!
