Goodbye, 2011. Hello, 2012

For New Year Eve, every woman has the rare opportunity to bow out of the year before in style and welcome the new year in with some pizazz. The question is, how can you accomplish both without breaking the bank or overdoing it with the sequins and sparkles?

For fashion newbies, this is your day to shine. All you need is the perfect wardrobe combo and I’m here to help you achieve it. Firstly, pick out your shoes. It is my personal belief that every great outfit begins with the perfect pair of shoes. Since New Year’s Eve is a sort of celebration, be sure to pick some party-appropriate styles. For example, this is a great time to try out some of those sky-high pumps you’ve always admired from a distance. Regardless of your pick, be sure to find something comfortable enough to keep your tootsies from screaming prior to the stroke of midnight.

Secondly, think about your location. Are you going to be indoors or out? Are you going to be both indoor and outdoor? Whatever your ideal location may be, work the temperature into your fashion creation. For example, are you going to be on the patio in 50 degree weather? If so, maybe find something you can wear some pantyhose and a cute scarf with.

Thirdly, think party. For most New Year parties, it’s a good idea to dress up a bit. I recommend a trendy cocktail dress or classic pencil skirt. To glam up the skirt, add a sequined top. To jazz up the dress, add some eye catching jewelry or style yourself an updo. Either way, make sure that you make that extra effort so that you know you are welcoming the New Year looking your very best.

Finally, choose one of the following: dramatic makeup and classic hair OR dramatic hairstyle and understated makeup. Don’t overdo it by combining an extreme cat eye and red lipstick with some over the top, color infused hair style. The wrong combination can leave you looking tacky rather than classy. It’s the perfect occasion for going out of your comfort zone and maybe be even a little extreme, but don’t take huge risks from head to toe. Enjoy welcoming in 2012 and enjoy being admired for your fantastic choices when prepping that special outfit for your New Year party.
