Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 – My 2011 Favorite Movie

Like many adults, I became a fan of the Harry Potter movies and anxiously awaited each new movie release.

J.K. Rowling has built a wonderful legacy that will live on for many lifetimes to come. Her work is a masterpiece of literary fantasy, taking each reader on a magical journey of good versus evil.

As June 2011 approached, I was excited about the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. As it grew closer, I was counting down the days.

I was not one of those people who made it to the midnight release showing of Deathly Hallows Part 2, but I was there bright and early the next morning picking up tickets for the first viewing of the day. It was even more exciting knowing that I would get to view this last installment of the series in 3D, my only hope was that all the excitement wouldn’t lead to disappointment. I can only imagine what the filmmakers went through knowing that this last film had to surpass all the others.

The movie proved to be everything that I had expected and the 3D aspect made it even better. It was almost like being a part of the environment and experiencing the 3D dragon ride was just amazing.

Watching Harry, Hermione, and Ron grow up in these films, gives one a sense of kinship with the characters. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have done an excellent job in bringing these characters to life for millions of viewers over the past several years. Watching Neville Longbottom rise from the shy scared little boy of the first film, into the full-on hero he became in Deathly Hallows would make anyone proud. And alas, we still are uncertain how to feel about poor professor Snape, but in the end as he sheds his last tear and dies, one cannot help but have a sense of sadness. As Voldemort takes his last breath and the end of it all draws to a close a sense of sadness fills the theater, not for the fact that the evil one is dead, but because we are all realizing that this is the end, the last of Harry Potter. He has won the battle, saved humanity from destruction and is free to become the man he was meant to be and finally be happy.
