Q: I need FAST help! I got a party this weekend and I have got to get rid of this pissy odor – it hits me in the face soon as I open the door. My 3 cats starting peeing on the carpet last week when my washer machine leaked water everywhere…. I have 3 littler boxes and up until the leak happened everything was fine. I don’t know why that triggered my cats to piss up the carpet but I need some serious advice really fast, please help me! It took 2 days for the carpet (it leaked into 2 rooms) to totally dry and my cats are now back to using their box as if nothing happened. WTF? In the meantime, my house STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My cats are great and I don’t wanna get rid of them or anything because they WILL use their box, they just flipped out with all the water on the floor. So has anyone here tried the baking soda, peroxide and dish liquid remedy? Does it work? I was planning on soaking the cat pee areas of the carpet with TONS of this mixture and letting it sit over night, then suck it all up next day with a carpet cleaner and then if there was still an odor I was gonna spray the areas really good with Odoban. I can’t stand this odor it is killing me! Please somebody, anybody help me!

A: lol i feel for you!! i went through the same thing with my indoor cats peeing on the carpet and you’re right, it does stink something awful. i made a batch of that stuff and sprayed where the cats peed every single day until the odor went away (about 5 days). my cats, like yours, mysteriously decided to start back using their litter box again and i’m really glad because there is nothing that smells as bad as cat pee!

Info your vet will absolutely need: Name of the pill (preferably the generic name), size of pill in grams, how many, and how long ago it was ingested. You may just take the bottle if it has all that information available. Since I don’t know what your cat swallowed, I can’t tell you how urgent it is, but likely your cat will not only need to be forced to vomit, but will also need to be force fed activated charcoal to prevent the system from absorbing anything until the medication is cleared up, and any antidote depending on the drug ingested and/or supportive care like fluids. Do NOT wait until there is change in behavior, for some meds, when clinical signs show up is already too late!!!!!! Good luck w kitty!!!!!
