Foot surgery recovery.. how to stay in shape while bound in wheel chair?
Q: I am 16 and having a bone graft surgery performed on both of my feet due to flexible fallen arches… I will be in a wheel chair for 6 weeks after the surgery and it will be 3 months until I will be back to normal. They are doing 1 foot at a time, so about six months later I will repeat the process with the other foot… by the way I NEED a wheel chair because the condition of my feet is so bad now, so don’t tell me that I can just use crutches because I can’t (and that takes away another form of excersise, no crutch -walking… too bad, because that can be a workout!) ANYWAYS I am thin now, only like 110 lbs but will I gain a lot of weight from no activity? What are some excersises that I CAN do without putting any weight on one foot? Thanks…. I just don’t want to get out of shape.
A: you can work on abs. regular abs,and keep legs propt up. or leg lifts like “6 inches”. and put a pillow below your feet when your on the ground… just in case when you lie your feet down, your feet dont hit the hard ground. or while sitting in your chair you can work on arms with weights from 2-10 pounds. and just do regular exercises.or you could balance on one foot and do twists and stuff. sounds stupid but it will keep your heart pumpingg.and i know what your mean, i didnt wanna become unactive or like fat. cause i was gonna be in a wheelchair and crutches forever!. i had surgery twice. and there is not much you can do. im only fourteen and had both surgeries when i was thirteen. eventually your not gonna want to do excersizes. but your legs will hurt and you gotta keep your legs up for like bloodflow. you can search youtube.arm and abs exercizes. good luckk on your surgery!!
