Q: i know that with intections especially in your mouth can be fatal or make you really sick…but my dad has had this absess(back molar) for about a week, and hes been stubborn about it. he finally called the dentist yesterday to get some antibiotics but hes not feeling good and hes all conjested in his sinuses and his appointment is on may 9th which is in like 2 weeks when he will have it pulled.hes a big guy and i am not sure if the anti biotics will help all that much…how long does he have until the toxins released into the blood might kill him??? can the dentist even do anything while its still infected? he has had chills and fevers and everything…please help..tell me any experiences please
A: If it’s that bad he needs to go to the hospital and have antibiotics administered by IV.Any infection,if let go too long has the potential to be deadly.Especially Tooth and gum infections as they release strychnine into the bloodstream which could cause a heart attack or cause him to go into shock. If he refuses to go you can always call an ambulance, once they are there he may not have much of a choice,he will have to go.If were you I would DO IT!

A: Give your father Advil or Aleve for fever & to reduce inflammation. The antibiotics work regardless of size.Have him use Mucinex (it thins & loosens mucus.) & saline nasal spray. If he feels worse tell him you are going to call dentist if he doesn’t…call & tell them situation & make emergency appt. The dentist would probably prefer to wait till infection is gone. The dentist probably felt he could wait 2 weeks till antibiotics work.Don’t worry your father is NOT going to die!

A: Yes, you can die of this problem. Antibiotics can help, but the real solution is to have it extracted. Most likely the infection has been there for a long time. If the molar is the very back one next to the wisdom tooth, this molar connects to the heart. The one next to that one, on the side toward the front of the mouth connects to the arterial system of the heart. When a tooth abscesses, there is no way the body can overcome that kind of infection because there is little blood flow to the teeth. You are very astute in realizing the infections in the teeth can cause many illnesses. Any amalgam fillings, crowns, root canals, all have infections under them, as well as, mercury poisoning that creates a huge burden on your body, especially the immune system.I would get a new dentist. One that understands the importance of getting that tooth fixed immediately. good luck to you
