Can you die from untreated Thyroid problems?
Q: If they are untreated for a maximum of 20 years, or even longer. Can you die from the condition? Like thyroid Cancer or something? What happens if it is left untreated??? I highly suspect I have it and have to wait another week for blood tests, I cannot take it.
A: Why do you think you have thyroid cancer? Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism aren’t necessarily correlated with thyroid cancer, if that is what you were thinking. There are four type of thyroid cancers, with the medullary being the most malignant type that can kill you. It is very rare though and there is no way you would have had it for 20 years. Papillary is the most common and extremely benign. Found in many people incidentally on autopsy.
my friend might have thyroid cancer !!?
Q: ok so i’m 20 and my friend is 21this semester we got kind of close and oh i have GAD which case me to worry too muchdo you believe that doctor suspected i had breast cancer and i worried LESS than when my sister was suspected the she might have BC as well ?? although my and my sister relationship is badi don’t know i worry about people ALOT and LESS about myself back to the topic today i was talking to this friend and she mentioned that she have thyroid problems and she did some medical tests and she is NOT have hyper- or hypo- thyrosimbut i guess the doctor found something in her thyroid and she is given an oppt next monthshe said something like “they think it might be cancer bu i hope it’s not” i got so worried and i have been thinking about it all dayin a worst case scenario if she does have cancer what will happen ??? i looked up the symptoms she does not have an enlarged thyroid and she is otherwise healthy (21)if it was cancer (any type of thyroid cancer) what will be the treatment ??do you think it will be spread already ?? she had problems with thyroid for some years now
A: Obviously, the worst case scenario would be getting diagnosed with the worst type of thyroid cancer…Anaplastic, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery. If it does turn out to be cancer, then she will have a total thyriodectomy, and if it has spread to the lymph nodes (it’s common, 50% of people have it and it doesn’t decrease prognosis) she might have some removed, and possibly have Radioactive Iodine after (only for the two most common types of thyroid cancer, papillary and follicular) to kill remaining thyroid cells. She would need to be on Synthroid the rest of her life since she won’t make any thyroid hormone anymore. At that age, the chances of being diagnosed with thyroid cancer are slim. I’m an odd ball out. I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer July 2008 at 21. Honestly, try not to worry!! She has probably less than a 5% chance of it being cancer, and that’s if she has noticeable indicators.
Can hypothyroidism lead to thyroid cancer?
Q: Just wondering. I have hypothyroidism. If so, what are some of the side effects or things that can happen if you are not taking your medication or not taking enough of it?
A: Take your medication. Without it, you can become mentally and physically slow, gain weight, and feel cold.Thyroid cancer is associated with chronic thyroiditis in 30% of cases. Some people with hypothyroidism have thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s, etc.)
