Yeah. If it flares up, take warm baths, and keep moist heat on the cyst. Eventually it will open and drain. If this keeps happening, then you can have surgery to remove it. It’s a fairly simple, quick surgery, usually.

What kind of treatment can i expect for a Pilonidal Cyst?
Q: I just found out I have been suffering from a Pilonidal Cyst for many years now. I will probably be having surgery soon. What can I expect? Is this a painful procedure? What is the healing time like? How hard will it be to take care of? To be honest I am very nervous.
A: The procedure itself isnt all that bad… youre mostly unconscious so it goes by quickly. The aftermath is kinda what sucks… The first weeking sitting down is very unpleasant, as you can imagine. It also sucks having to change the bandage like 2x a day (especially since its something you cant really do yourself -_-). Hopefully you have someone who loves you and would be willing to take care of that part. I think treatment takes 1-2 months (if ur lucky). I had mine done like 2 years ago and the surgery didnt seem to be very successful :/ Ill prolly have to do it again when i have better medical. Best of luck.

Help i think i have a pilonidal cyst?
Q: A big lump to the left of my tailbone its been there for quite some time 2-3 years. Im going to the doctors about it soon. What treatments do they use to fix it. If they drain it or what ever how long will it take to heal?
A: cutla – You may have the correct diagnosis. A pilonidal cyst is a fluid-filled defect. It is found at the base of the spine, or “tailbone” area. The terms cyst, sinus, and abscess refer to different stages of the disease process. Cyst—not infectedAbscess—pocket of pusSinus—opening between a cyst (or other internal structure) and the outsideWhen a pilonidal cyst is infected, it forms an abscess, eventually draining pus through a sinus. Pilonidal cysts are harmless until they get infected. At this point they form an abscess that causes pain, a foul smell, and drainage. This is more likely to occur in young Caucasian men with a lot of hair in the region. This condition is not serious, but since it is an infection like a boil or carbuncle , it can enlarge and become uncomfortable. Therefore, it should be treated. Talk with your doctor about the best treatment plan for you. The choice of treatment will depend on the extent of the condition and your general overall health. Treatment options include:Home Treatment As with all localized infections under the skin, hot water soaks will draw out the infection. This will not completely cure the condition, but it will help.Incision and Drainage The abscess is sliced, the pus drained, and the wound is packed with sterile gauze. This helps it heal from the inside out. But this usually does not cure the problem because abnormal tissue remains.Excision To completely cure the condition, all affected tissue needs to be removed. This is a more extensive surgical procedure than simple incision and drainage. The surgical wound may be closed with sutures or left open to heal from the inside.Laser Hair Removal There are recent reports that laser hair removal in the area may be effective treatment for pilonidal cysts.Search Google under “pilonidal cyst fact sheet”
