Cheap Eating at the Plaza in NYC

After a long day of work, a glass of wine and a nice dinner is just what you need. I recently had one of those long days and just wanted a no nonsense meal. My friend suggested the Plaza. The Plaza? I’m a cheapeater and the Plaza isn’t cheapeating. Fear not my friend, it is.

Down below in the shopping area is a well kept secret that I’m about to spill. Todd English is behind the Plaza Food Court 768 5th Ave. Different stations serving pizza, burgers, tapas, sushi and seafood. It doesn’t matter where you sit because you can order from any station at any seat.

My friend and I sit at the seafood station, order a glass of Cotes du Rhone and mull over the menu. I’m so hungry, I can eat everything. I decide on a caesar salad and tuna burger. As we’re relaxing and sipping our wine, it starts filling up. How come I’ve never heard of this?

My charming waitress set my salad and burger in front of me. Long stems of romaine lettuce, bruschetta toast and anchovy…a proper caesar salad. I immediately tear into it. Creamy, crunchy, tangy, salty all wrapped in one. Delicious. My tuna burger is sitting on a brioche bun with a lettuce, tomato and a wasabi sauce. One bite, fresh, meaty with a hint of heat. I’m speechless.

The manager Christine, comes over to say hi and check to make sure that everything is OK. It’s more than OK, it’s perfect. Now you would think this meal was way over my budget. I’m happy to say that my salad and burger came within my $25 budget (not including wine).

I love this place so much, I had lunch there the next day. Ooops, the secret is out.

Happiness, $25 and under.
