It is my understanding that load-bearing exercises only increase bone density around the joints. This is certainly helpful, but it still means there can be some weakness in long bone shafts that exercise cannot necessarily help.There is also some evidence to suggest that if you are female and exercise *heavily*, you can have reduced-enough hormone concentrations that you can reduce bone health. Estrogen promotes bone growth and density so if you’re short on estrogen, it can increase risk for osteoporosis.Overall, the benefits of exercise greatly outweigh the costs. For a woman to have reduced-enough estrogen to have a negative effect on bone health she would have to be a very serious athlete, and the effect of load-bearing exercise on the joints will slightly offset this one negative. Personally, even if a woman were exercising very vigorously, I wouldn’t recommend going on hormones in order to improve bone health unless a doctor found serious bone loss (the cons of the pill are too great IMO).

DON’T drink it.2) LOAD bearing exercises absolutely increase bone density. Weight lifting and running are best examples. Biking is great for muscles.but NOT for bone density. There is another very recent study on this. Does an increase in bone density guarantee a bone won’t break?? NO! An increase in bone density simple means the bones are denser than they would be otherwise.So, keep up load bearing workouts and it will help you not only muscularly but also with bone density. Yes! And stay away from soda (the phsophoric acid can leach calcium from the bones).
