I haven’t had my period for over three months. I know I’m not pregnant because I’m not having sex. But I have been running a lot: 20 to 30 miles a week, sometimes more. What’s going on?

yes it can! especially if you’re losing a lot of weight! Athletes who train themselves into levels of low body fat for periods of more than three months usually suffer from secondary amenorrhoea, which occurs, on average, when fat levels fall below 20%. However, athletes with fat levels between 20 and 25% are likely to experience an intermediate problem known as oligomenorrhoea, when periods are occasional rather than regular.
Yes if you go below a certain body fat percentage your period may stop. If you have lost body fat due to your new regime, then this can be the cause for for lost periods. Check with your doctor, it can also be your thyroid.
go see your gyno. it sounds a bit serious.
Normally, no. However, if you’re exercising to the point that it’s changing your body chemistry, then, yes. Young Olympic-level gymnasts do this to themselves since they are all muscle and no fat. No I do not believe it does ,but it can slows it down and you can have little to no cramps.
It is most likely what most of the others are saying..body fat falls below a certain percentage and stuff starts happening. It isn’t unusual.but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth asking about. Next time you go see the doctor (hopefully a doctor that understands female athletes.you don’t want one that says “oh, just sit on the couch and relax instead of running :>) ask the doctor about it. Remember.its YOUR body.take care of it.and when stuff happens that make you wonder..then ask the doctor. He/she should be able to answer EXACTLY what is going on and what the effects, if any, are. It can make it not so heavy, but you may have something like pcos (polly cyctic ovarien syndrome) go have it checked out, and lighten up on the running!
