Missed periods on Risperdal?
I am on Lithium and Risperdal for bipolar disorder, but my doc took me off Risperdal because I hadn’t gotten my period in many months. We ruled out a brain tumor as the cause of the missed period, and now I want to go back on Risperdal because it really made the difference. Question is, can not getting your period for a prolonged time be medically harmful? All my gyn said was, “if you know the reason then I’m not concerned about it.”

Hmmm.this is weird. I have a friend on Risperdal, she called me the other night because of the opposite problem. She has had her period twice this month. She has only been on the med for one month. Her breasts are also “leaking”. She had her tubes tied 5 years ago, so no she’s not pregnant. I didn’t realize that Risperdal affected your hormones so much.As for not getting your period. I was on Depo-provera for years (you don’t get a period), it was never a concern for my doctor. Like your doctor said, as long as you know the reason no big thing! I’m thinking you’re pretty lucky!Your doctor is right, when you know the reason then you should not be concerned. But if any problem persist then you should be concerned sooner or later
