I just keep telling myself it’s only hormones. I usually try and cut down on sugar and caffeine. That seems to help me.
Although you said women only, I thought I would offer some advice based on my wife’s experience and my background knowledge in basic Physiology & Biochemistry. My wife also wrote a legal paper some years ago on what is called “Automistism during the Menstrual Period” (basically not being responsible for your actions because your hormones are driving you half mad!).Some things you should try which my wife found greatly reduced the “roller-coaster effect”:-* Take plenty of Vitamin B – take it all the time, not just for a few days a month.* Evening Primrose Oil is also supposed to help, although we found very little benefit. However, Chamomile Tea seemed to help!* Keep your energy levels high but don’t binge on things like chocolate. Chocolate actually has quite a powerful drug effect which can actually make things worse even while you get the “energy hit” and comfort effect that you eat it for. Fresh vegetables and salad will release energy to your body slowly and steadily throughout the day.* certain foods may trigger stronger adverse reactions – cheese and bananas are common candidates because they contain chemicals that mimic hormones. Make a note of what you eat and how you feel in the few hours afterwards; if you get a bad reaction then avoid that food in future.* Make sure your diet contains plenty of iron – you lose iron during menstruation and will feel tired and less able to cope as a result.* Drink plenty of water (not alcohol, which will enhance your mood swings).* (This one is more easily said than done) avoid conflict and situations which are likely to start your hormones racing around: eg. if you don’t have to make a long drive through heavy traffic for the next few days, then don’t! Deep breathing and relaxation exercises help keep you on an even keel.Hope this is some help!
