Q: My daughter is eleven, and began having her period a few months ago. She’s now had three, and they’ve been normal and uneventful. She’s taken it in stride, with no difficulties, just getting a mild headache on the day it begins. No woman likes a pelvic exam, but I’m having a hard time dealing with the thought of one being done on my child at this point. She’s emotionally quite mature for her age, but definitely not sexually active in any way (believe me when I say I know for certain). But she is so slim and not great about pain, I can’t imagine her easily enduring a pelvic.

A: I would definately wait until she was sexually active and/or 18. I don’t think gyno’s accept children that young unless something was wrong.

Period is like the beginning, you may still get taller , your breasts will grow and you will start to mature emotionally and mentally…it is quite a long process. Some women are still physically maturing in their 20’s, you will continue to mentally and emotionally mature long after that too.
