A: Was the shot Follistim? Or was it an HCG trigger shot? If you are taking Follistim (follistim is a brand name, it may also go by Bravelle or Menapour, I think) then you certainly could have lots of discomfort. I did Follistim during my IVF cycle and it causes the ovaries to enlarge which can make you feel bloated and very uncomfortable.During pregnancy you can also experience something like what you are describing, it’s called round ligament pain. You could google “round ligament pain during pregnancy” and I’m sure you’ll find a good explanation of it. The thing about fertility meds that kind of stinks is that a lot of them have side effects that mimic pregnancy symptoms. So when you are doing a medicated cycle it’s really hard to know just based on symptoms. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! 🙂

Lower abdominal aches and low back pain at 7 weeks pregnant?

Q: This is my second pregnancy. I miscarried with my first back in April this year. I was wondering if anyone experience these types of pains in early pregnancy and everything was fine. I have not had any bleeding or anything just the pain on and off. I was diagnosed earlier with a Uti but have since been treated. My follow-up appt confirmed the Uti was gone. Do you think it is still possible to have one and that is causing the achiness. Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

HAhaha. these are just the beginnings of strange things to happenYour lower abdomen is streching and making room for baby and all the extra weight……..the back pain will just keep getting worse ( sorry to say) Go get a book called “what to expect when you’re expecting” it’s the pregnancy bible. All you questions – even ones you didn’t think of – are answered in there. You can get it just about anywhere – even at Walmart. I am pregnant with my 4th and I still refer to it almost daily.

Lower abdominal pain for 5 years. Drs don’t know what is wrong.?

Q: I am a 25 year old female that has been in pain for 5 years. Drs have done ultrasounds, x-rays, and blood tests and still don’t know what is wrong with me. I’ve been to 3 different drs and first assumption is appendix but because I have been in pain for 5 years it is ruled out. I have never smoked, drank, or done other drugs. The pain started after having a normal vaginal birth with my daughter. I am currently 19 weeks pregnant with my second child. In the early pregnancy the pain seemed to fade until recently when it went back to normal just in a different location. I only feel the pain when pressure is applied. The pain is to the right of my belly button and seems about the size of baseball. After a dr pushes on it the pain last for about 24 hours without being touched. It feels like a horrible bruise. When pushed hard it is a stabbing pain. During an ultrasound when the tool was pressed in that spot is caused horrible pain. There was a large blob which the ultrasound technician listed as bowel with a question mark after it. I am not usually constipated. I also have had a colonoscopy because my sister and dad had precancerous polyps in the colon. My uncle died suddenly of colon cancer. Everything was completely normal with my colon. I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t want the problem to harm my baby. I eat relatively healthy and frequently walk/jog 3 miles 5 times week. I am technically considered obese 200lb and 5’5″. However no matter how much exercise and diet I don’t lose more than 15 lbs. Before pregnancy I was a 1200 calorie diet with a minimum of 3 miles a day 6 days a week and weight lifting for over a year and got down to 185lbs. My blood pressure is 130/65.

A: After you have the baby, I would request laparoscopy. It kind of sounds like a hernia. I’ve heard of alot of women actually getting hernias after giving birth. I had about 6 months of intense pain and had the same as you-bloodwork, xrays, ultrasounds and nothing showed. My OB recommended laparoscopy because he thought I had endometriosis (which won’t show up on u/s or xray). They found hernias and no endometriosis. Hernias also may not show up on u/s or xray. Hernias would also explain why the pain is worse while pregnant. My doctors have told me to be prepared to be in pain as my pregnancy progresses. I just think laparoscopy would be good because it gives the doctor an inside look at your abdomen. I just felt alot better about my situation after having the surgery done. Good luck.
