A: try to stop snacking, and work out. you don’t have to be in a gym to excersise. try lunges, running, crunches, pushups. at first it’ll be really hard, but every day just try to do a little more excersising and eating healthier. take it slow, and don’t be too hard on yourself if you mess up the first few times.one thing that really helps is to get rid of all the junkfood in your house. make sure your parents and you are serious about losing weight. later you can practice self control and be able to eat healthy things while other people aren’t. Good Luck!!best regards, emily
How can a 13 year old girl lose weight?
Q: I checked my BMI on http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm and I am nearly off overweight. I want to lose weight by myself without relying on my family and friends. I want to lose about 23lbs by next year. I’m tired of choosing loose clothes (which most of them are not that stylish) and looking at myself in the mirror with disgust. I’m allergic to chlorine and the gym doesn’t allow my age to enter and use its equipment. I am 5’1 and weigh 156lbs. Please HELP!
A: Hey hon! Listen, I empathize with your problem very well.. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I am 25 now and really trying to make some changes in my life, based on a dietary advisor’s direction, so let me share some with you.First off, excellent job for looking up your BMI. That is a wonderful way to measure how you’re actually doing for weight. Try not to obsess over it too much, but focus more on the living healthy, and the weight loss will come. The first thing you should try to do is start by eliminating soda (or at least limiting it to one 8 oz glass a day, if you truly can’t give it up). Make sure you’re drinking 8-10 glasses of water daily (8 oz glasses). The second thing you should start doing, and I know this may be a bit difficult if you’re attending school, but you might be able to find a way, is to change the size and number of your meals. You should be eating no more at each meal than what could fit in your palms cupped together, but you should be eating that amount 5-6 times daily. This way we’re getting the appropriate amount of food, but slowly over the day, instead of overeating at one meal (which reduces the energy our body gets from the food) and binging at later meals because it’s been too long since we’ve eaten.Try to start your day with some protein and fruit/vegetables if you can (perhaps some scrambled eggs with veggies or a piece of fruit and an ounce and a half of nuts), then as your day moves on, focus more on lean proteins (like white mean chicken and turkey, seafood, and lean beef like sirloin) and veggies. Things like potatoes and rice are okay, but you should limit them, and try to eat red potatoes and whole grain rices and breads instead of bleached white breads and pastas. Our body truly gets a lot of carbohydrates, with much more vitamin content, from veggies. The last thing I would encourage you to do would be to try exercising in small chunks during the day. You do NOT have to use a gym – try turning on some music and dancing around in your bedroom for 15 minutes before school (it’ll help energize you for the day!), then maybe after school you can take a couple walks around the block (if you’re in a safe neighborhood) and play outside a bit more, or at least be more active in your home, instead of choosing entertaining activities that happen while you’re sitting. If you don’t want to do huge blocks of exercise, just try to fit in 10-15 minutes here and there, a couple times a day or more if possible.Good luck on your weight loss journey and always remember that being healthy is the most important thing! Being skinny, but unhealthy, just makes your life worse in all different ways!
