the horrorific death of our” kitty” should i tell my kids the truth?

Q: a few weeks ago our “kitty” didn’t come home .to make a very painful story short i searched i walked i hung flyers not long after i arrived at home i recieved a call from a neighbor not very far from my home she said she had seen kitty in her neighbors yard she believed coyotes had gotten our kitty i had remembered a gardener mentioning coyotes one of the first couple of days i had been searching and asking everyone well anyways i am still in shock and am finding it difficult to bring some kindof closure to this awful experience partly to unanswered questions i didnt get to see our kitty the gardeners took it upon themselves to dispose of kitty anyways it is hard to deal with for many reasons my boys are 6 and 8 yrs old kitty was their first pet we all loved him very much my oldest is heart broken he thinks maybe he hugged him to hard that day and so he left him i dont want him to think that he caused him to leave but the truth is unbearable i dont know what toi fear my son will forever hold images of a horrific scene in his mind …….i mean i can bearly take this!very good point you have I will be doing some investigating first thing in the morning i need to know for sure i pray i find another possible cause of death this is so hard to take im haunted with terrible thoughts of our poor kitty ….this is tearin me upto ease the pain and fill the space that seemed empty since our “kitty” never came home we have 2 new members in our household brothers i think they romp and play every moment they are awake “tiger” and “max” have truly helped our wounded hearts…my oldest son left the front door open yesterday and wasnt paying any mind then when he suddenly could not find them he became histerical was crying i mean waling hopelessly i told him not to panick that they woundnt have gone far and if they had went outside they will still be there they dont just dissapear poof there gone …? then i realized it seemed to him that our “kitty” had just poofed and disappeared on him with no answers at all ….so i told him kitty was found in someones yard and was not alive and that was why kitty never came home because he coundnt and that made sence because we know kitty loved us as much as we loved him he didnt run away or simply just not love us anymore …i told him of no details or possible causwe dont really need to know how right now we just know “kitty” is not alive anymore and why he never came home is no longer a mystery .. i think the simple truth that kitty died has brought comforting feelings in a way because now he can mourn for kitty knowing kitty loved him too nothing had changed he didnt run away from us and now in writing this im a mess again im a grown woman and ive had my share of pain and loss and heartache yet i still remain such a softly rediculus im still bawling over this well now i need to blow my nose…..

A: NO!There’s no reason on this earth why anyone let alone a child needs to know the gory details of the death of someone, or something they love.Just say the kitty passed away :(Good Luck

Very sick Kitty….?

Q: Last Monday m 4 1/2 year old kitty got really sick. It all started with some nasty vomitting. I got home form work at 6:45 and was back at the vet with him by 7:15 so that they could do x-rays and see what was going on. They felt a small obstruction in his intestines and gave him some pain meds and anti vomitting meds and told me to bring him back in the morning. So I did and on Tuesday he seemed a little less painful and they said the obstruction seemed smaller and was moving towards his colon which was a good thing. Well, Wednesday came and he never moved from the spot I left him the night before when I went to bed so I brought him back to the vet and they did an ultrasound and that is where the downward spiral began. They had to rush him into emergency exploratory surgery and found that it was a rock hard hairball causing the obstruction. The poor cat was actually vomitting up poop because it had nowhere else to go. His stomach was also full of bile/liquid and when they cut into the intestines it actually started spewing out his nose and mouth while he was on the table during surgery. So, they finished the surgery and did some biopsies. Well, he never started eating again so we tried force feeding him for a couple of days but by Saturday his liver was starting to fail and he was getting jaundiced so on Saturday they had to go in and do another emergency surgery to place a feeding tube and do another exploratory to see why he had not been pooping at all or passing anything. They found that his intestines were twisting around themselves and part of them had gotten gangreen and had to remove them. Now, he is wrapped in bandages with a feeding tube that goes right into his stomach. His little ears, lips and nose are completely pale/yellow. When they did the 2nd surgery they found all of this undentifiable bacteria that caused a terrible infection. He now has pneumonia and a very high heart murmur. It’s effecting all of his little organs. I know this all sounds bad but they say there is still hope if we can control the infection and get him eating and pooping again. Any opinions?I know there is a definite chance that he may not pull through this and I appreciate all of your prayers but I have to wonder when it would be time to make a dreaded decision. He is so young and I am hopeful that they may work in his favor. I also don’t know how long after surgery I should see any progress. I mean the poor thing did have surgery twice in 2 days and today he was a little more responsive (i.e sitting up, trying to walk, purring, and actually licking a little bit of tuna juice). So do I give a little more time to see if he pulls through??

A: I’m sorry to say, but if all of that is true, you sure start preparing yourself to say goodbye to your kitty. I hope for the best, but that sounds very, very bad.

KITTEN EMERGENCY PLEASE HELP, VERY CONSTIPATED BELIEVE SHE NEEDS AN ENEMA?

Q: We found an abandoned kitten last night, covered in fleas & cold. We bathed & used trimmers 2 shave & got rid of most of the fleas, skin pinch test said she was very dehydrated, KMR formula w pedialite instead of water, today not so dehyrated. Warm water bottles in her box & she is perky & sweet & loves people & begs 4 attention. I think her eyes very recently opened. I’ve done this b4 with kittens & they did very well. When we rub her little bottom she will pee but no bowel movements. She strains & we actually saw 1 trying 2 poke out this morning but she couldn’t get it. Been giving her 1ml mineral oil w her feedings wich i’ve bee going easy on because of the constipation. She needs an enima I think though, it’s just looked to big & hard. The strainging & now she’s bloating r bad signs. My H was laid off & there just isn’t any $ for a vet, seriously. The animal shelter here euthanizes healthy kittens that need bottle feeding they don’t have the resources 2 do otherwise, so thats not much of an option. The internet says they can have warm water enemas but won’t give instructions farther than ” see a vet” I would love 2. If anyone knows how 2 do this PLEASE I’M BEGGING tell me, I know I should start with 1ml, I know 2ml is the max & u have to be extremy gentle & slow. I just don’t know what 2 use, her bottle came with different nipples, 1 that is slender was thinking I could use that, mark off a 1/4 of an inch & try for less than that but no deeper, it may be 2 rubbery though. PLEASE I DON’T WANT HER TO DIE BECAUSE I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY! I’m going 2 continue to try stimulating her but i’m scared it won’t work & then she will waste away or her bowel will rupture & she’ll go septic & die a horrible painful death. She is so sweat & greatful, pls there is no $ or hope of it, there r no free vets & with her symptoms I believe she will be in distress in a short period of time. PLEASE HELP ME SAVE HER, PLEASE TELLING ME i COULD HURT HER SO U WON’T TELL ME THE PROPER WAY WOULD BE CRUEL BECAUSE SHE WILL DIE. A: Had this happen a few times with shelter kittens. I work for a shelter and please do not try to give a enema! I know you do not have much money but for a couple bucks go to Walmart and buy human stool softeners. The ones that are the liquid gel tabs. You know the rubbery ones with liquid inside. Take one pill and pop a little hole in it with a sewing needle. All you need is ONE drop. What I do to make sure the kitten gets it is place the one drop in a little bowl add very little water take a eye dropper and suck some up and place it in the kittens mouth. It will make the kitten foam at the mouth really bad the stuff tastes really bad. But the kitten needs it. In a few hours the kitten will poo. You can give this up to 2 times per day. What will happen when a kitten can not go poo is called a prolasped anus. It strains so much that it develops hemorrhoids. Also place some bag balm or Vaseline on the anus. Giving the kitten a emena will cause nothing but problems,very tough to give unless you know what you are doing. Trust me this works I have done this several times. Keep the kitten on a stool softener for several days. Two times today then when the kitten poos try one tomorrow then keep the kitten on one time for a few days. If the kitten is pooing try every other day.Keep stimulating it to.
