Just drifting with the breeze
Like some kind of dandelion seed
I have rambled round and round and round
On a poet’s mission seeking wisdom
Oh, but in the end there has been
Nothing but one single, central, fundamental
Simple fact of life that I have found
And that’s that in this crazy, shady,
Swirly, topsy-turvy, tilt-a-whirly world
That’s mostly built on shifting sands
There ain’t nothing more important
Than to simply find someplace
Where you can plant your flag
And take your stand
Cause after all,
However high that you might think
That you were meant to fly
Eventually, by necessity, you’re gonna need
Some little piece of solid ground
Where you can land
And so I guess that you can see
Why property has been the key
To my investment strategy
And luckily being blessed
With something of the Midas Touch
It turns out that over time
That I have come to own so much
That they undoubtedly could feature me
On each and every single episode
Of Cribs on MTV
And so at the end of the day
However far that I might find
That I have strayed
Away from the beaten path
I’m always fortunate enough
To have someplace where I can just
Kick my feet up and relax
Whether crashing in my mansions
Riding on my ranches
Cruising on my yachts
Or just hanging round on the grounds
Of my French chateaux
Oh but you know however high
I might try to turn the heat
Up here inside my penthouse suite
This cold wind always seems to cut me
Right through to the bone
Because if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless every since you went
And hit the road
Yeah, if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless ever since you went
And hit the road
Now if the secret of success
Is measured by degrees of fabulous
Then I suppose that every day
When I wake up I should be
Just delirious with happiness
After all, I drive around all over town
In the slickest, tricked out rides
Got these supermodels calling on the line
All breathing heavily and telling me
Why they should be
My newest trophy bride
Yeah, I’m standing proud and walking tall
Looking like some kind of giant disco ball
With all these diamonds in my bling
And got my closets stacked up to the rafters
With all the finest styles of designer clothes
And so it seems the dream
Should be complete
But in reality I’m as down and out
As anyone you’d ever meet
Who’s out there sleeping on the streets
Of Skid Row
Because if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless ever since you went
And hit the road
Yeah, if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless ever since you went
And hit the road
Now I’ll admit that wrangling rainbows
Has been mighty good to me (good to me)
I party down with movie stars
And only the best
Of the A-List celebrities
But without your loving kiss
To wish me sweet godspeed (godspeed)
I’m feeling just as lonesome
As a lost puppy
And so if loving
Is something you believe
That’s just as good to give
As to receive
Well then maybe baby
You could spare just a little
Tender sympathy
And find somewhere
Where this wretched refugee
Can store this torch
That’s taken up
All the vacancy
Inside my soul
Because if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless ever since you went
And hit the road
Yeah if home is where the heart is (heart is)
I’ve been homeless ever since you went
And hit the road
