Last summer, the German carmaker unveiled the new M Class, the third generation of their popular SUV. As we expected, the high performance AMG version will also be available, and with the market launch in the United States scheduled for this March, the company though it was about time to let us know the pricing for the model. So how much will customers have to pay for one of the most impressive SUVs out there? According to a company press release — $95,865, a price that also includes the $875 destination charge. And now let’s see what will you get for the money.
The Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG comes with the 5.5-liter twin turbocharged V-8 that delivers 518 hp and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. And if that’s not enough, there’s also an AMG Development Package available that increase the power output and maximum torque to 550 hp and 560 lb.-ft. What does this mean in terms of performance? Well, the ML63 AMG accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (4.6 with the AMG Development Package) and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Car equipped with the Development Package will also get the speed limited removed, which means top speed goes all the way up to 174 mph (280 km/h). What’s also notable is that fuel economy is the same for both version (with or without the performance package), 16 mpg on the combined cycle.
Another highlight of the model is AMG’s Speedshift Plus seven speed automatic transmission that features three modes, Sport, Manual and “Controlled Efficiency”, the last one being more suitable for day to day more fuel efficient and comfortable driving with smoother acceleration and gear changes and Eco Start/Stop function.
But, of course, power is not the only things that matter in a high performance car, so the Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG comes with a long range of features to create the perfect handling and dynamic package. The list includes a sports suspension system with Airmatic Air Suspension, Adaptive Damping System, independent damper struts and automatic level control, Active Curve System with active roll stabilizers on both the front and rear axles and the 4ETS electronic traction control as standard. You also have to safely stop the car, so the new ML63 AMG comes with an AMG high-performance braking system with ventilated and perforated brake disks (wheels are available in 20 inch and 21 inch sizes).
The safety features list is also impressive, with Attention Assist, Adaptive Brake, Pre-Safe system, Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Adaptive Highbeam Assist, while the interior comes with all the top class features we’re expecting from a top of the line Mercedes.
